Russian riot police clashed with about 500 demonstrators Sunday in St. Petersburg.  The situation escalated when the time the government had allowed for the rally expired but protesters continued to call for President Vladimir Putin to step down.

Reuters:

The violence began as some 500 demonstrators calling for the resignation of President Vladimir Putin moved towards a railway station after the end of an officially permitted protest.

Police wearing blue urban combat uniforms and crash helmets moved into the crowd, arrested some of the protesters and pushed others to the ground and hit them with batons, a Reuters witness said.

“Stop the beating,” demonstrators shouted at the police. “Fascists. How much did Putin pay you?”

Well, Mr. Bush… this might just be the diversion you’ve been waiting for to take your “Fellow Americans’” minds off your fiasco in Iraq!

Invade Russia to save the people from their nasty government and to install “democracy” in its place.

Announce that one and Presto! - the Iraq problem disappears instantly!

Oh - you hesitate! What’s that? Russia has a real army and you could get badly hurt? Bad plan. Bullies don’t pick on those who can fight back.

The problem is, change a few words ... locations ... etc., and this could be anywhere in the world this year.

Including the U.S.

It’s inevitable.

This tragedy is exacerbated, and a harbinger of more evil to come, by the fact that G.W. and Dick-Head have just signed up for Putin’s six-week seminar on ‘Population Control’.

Hint: it doesn’t involve condoms, or Jerry, Pat, and the good ‘Dr.’ wouldn’t let them go.
