Senate Democrats Whittle Down Jobs Bill

Here we have yet another example of partisan politicking in action: Senate Democrats, led by Harry Reid, tossed out a jobs bill they’d created in tandem with Republicans and produced a trimmed-down alternative at the eleventh hour. This did not please their former collaborators from the GOP, who now have to choose whether to vote against the bill, and thus potentially come across as thwarting congressional efforts to create jobs, or go along with the Dems’ plan and overlook the provisions they supported in the original version. So much for cooperation on Capitol Hill.  —KA

ABC News:

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s latest bill focuses on several popular provisions aimed at boosting job creation, including a new tax break negotiated with Republicans for companies that hire unemployed workers and for small businesses that purchase new equipment. It also would renew highway programs and help states and local governments finance large infrastructure projects.

Reid, D-Nev., put forward the pared-back plan after Senate Democrats balked at a broader bill stuffed with unrelated provisions sought by lobbyists for business groups and doctors. The surprise blew apart an agreement with key Republicans like Chuck Grassley of Iowa, who worked with Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont., for weeks to produce a bill containing the extra provisions.

The original bill had won support from across the political spectrum, from President Barack Obama as well as conservative Republicans in the Senate, offering the promise of a rare bipartisan package in a Congress that has been gripped by partisan fights. To get that support, however, the package had morphed into a 361-page grab bag of provisions that included extending benefits to the unemployed and tax breaks for businesses.

Now, the bipartisan agreement is off.

However,  even progressives will back this
Democrat bill, even with the highways
      construction.

Saying a bill is “bipartisan” just means that it’s full of giveaways to two sets of special interests instead of just one set.

That Reid threw large parts of the bill away is a good thing; the only problem is that when he was done some parts of it still remained intact.

KA phrases it perfectly: if the Republicans oppose this bill, they may indeed “come across” as thwarting efforts to create jobs.  However, they will not actually be thwarting efforts to create jobs, as this bill has nothing to do with creating jobs.  As indeed no bill that Congress has ever or will ever propose will ever have anything to do with creating jobs.

I’ve just been reading a blog, that posts letters from people who have escaped America…

yes that’s right, have gone to live elswhere in the world..

to escape the madness that America has become, and is becoming, America is a Casa De Locos…

there is no sense of urgency at all in congress, because the Republicans are stalling, hoping for an Epic Fail…

The Dems Bi-partison lunacy, is just an excuse, for not having the nerve to cross their Republican masters…

It’s like having a gun pointed at you, and apologizing to the mugger for not having enough money to give….

Dam them, I don’t know which is worse Republican psychopaths, or Democrat gutless wonders…

Have the nerve to save your country or get out of the way…

SENATE DEMOCRATS WHITTLE DOWN JOBS BILL

Now even those who weren’t sure that “IN AMERICA
DEMOCRACY IS A USEFUL FICTION” can believe it.

The only difference between the repuliCONS & demoRATS,
is the spelling. They are opposite sides of the same
coin, enjoy playing good cop bad cop, & screw we the
people every chance they get. They are whores in the
most expensive brothel in the world.
