Sen Dems Delay Climate BillPosted on Jul 23, 2010
Both hippies and people who enjoy clean air alike will be dismayed at the news from Senate Democrats that they will wait until September to pursue the broad climate change legislation that has been on the Democrats’ “to-do” list since the 2008 election. —JCL

Good comments so far. Of course, campaign contributions are the prime factor. Could we require broadcasters, as part of license, to air x amount of political ads without charge? A partial solution. Agree that we individually should do better and that Obama administration has been a disappointment (not even fixing DA/DT yet), but it is certainly not a total failure.

The reason we’re not going to get a comprehensive climate / energy bill is because no one among my environmentalist acquaintances think that they will have to make sacrifices. Everyone of my friends who want climate legislation drive 4 by 4 SUVs, heat with wood fireplaces and take two or three flights yearly. They think big business will take the hit, but that their life styles will continued as before. I know that there are many environmentalist who bicycle whenever possible, drive small cars when necessary, preferably hybrids, turn off home air conditioning and cut out optional flying as I do. Just complaining that it is someone else fault without equally rigorous self evaluation is childish.

Please! As if Obama, the Democrats, or the other right-wing faction of the Business Party had any intention of fighting the very hands that feed them campaign contributions! The politicians need time in order to make sure all the right corporations are exempted, and all the pork they want gets put into this bill to, if history is any guide, be sure to that real reform never takes place. We’ve seen that this administration is all talk, and that when it finally comes down to taking action, when it comes to prosecuting the past administration for war crimes, ending torture and kidnapping, ending wars of choice, rejecting corporate-friendly Cabinet and judicial picks, holding Wall Street accountable, supporting single-payer, restoring the Bill of Rights, Obama’s administration is a total failure, a major disappointment, and a corporate wet dream.

Dems have their hands in the same pockets as Reps. They are a timorous, duplicitous party which comes to us every two years claiming they are different, better, less self-interested than Republicans…all fucking lies, because they then turn around and “cave in” to the Republican minority and refuse to fight for betterment of our lives on so many fronts - including preservation of our 24,000 mile diameter home.
Or are they really “caving in?”
I don’t think so. They don’t care any more about our childrens’ future than Republicans do. The only way to prove that is to fight for what they say they believe is right…and they don’t.
They just don’t.

Democrats Abandon Comprehensive Energy Bill -
Giving up without a fight? If we can’t pass legislation limiting carbon (and encouraging renewable energy resources) after overwhelming evidence of climate change and the Gulf of Mexico disaster, when can we?
President Obama should fight for a strong, effective bill, within the government and with a public campaign. Then, the Senate Democrats should force the issue, letting the Republicans mount an actual filibuster, if they dare.
