Two people were hospitalized Tuesday evening after Santa Monica (Calif.) College police officers allegedly pepper-sprayed a crowd of students and others protesting tuition increases outside a meeting of the college’s board of trustees. An investigation to determine who released the spray is under way.

The trustees relocated after the crowd failed to gain entry to the original meeting room. No arrests were made. The protesters were permitted to voice their concerns from a room nearby. Later the board announced that the college would pay the medical bills of injured students. Reportedly, there were injuries to several other people in addition to the two who were hospitalized.

Los Angeles Times:

Police on Wednesday were trying to sort out who used pepper spray against a crowd of protesters at Santa Monica College, causing two people to be hospitalized and others to suffer minor injuries.

The pepper spray was used during a protest Tuesday evening by about 100 students against a plan to offer high-priced courses at the college this summer. They were attending a meeting of the college’s board of trustees.

A handful of protesters suffered minor injuries as campus police tried to prevent dozens of students chanting “Let us in, let us in” and “No cuts, no fees, education should be free” from disrupting the meeting during a public comment period. ...

... Police are investigating the circumstances of when the pepper spray was used and by whom.

What we can really write a lot of useless garbage about is exactly how many cans of pepper spray they used.  What it 182 or 183?  I read on dogfirepond that it was over 200.

Can anybody point me to an official record of this?

Robes——maybe you could do some digging and find out about changes in tax
laws in California in the not too distant past.  It might help you do other than offer
up a bad guess.

@heterochromatic, indeed, probably because nothing actually comes into the state because so much is privatized and owned by your corporate idols.

I just watched the full video, Kerryrose. And I heard this words:

“We won! We won! They pepper-sprayed us!”

If you find it boring and trollish, maybe thats because the Occupy method is boring and trollish.

And if you think some name-calling at heterochromatic is going to silence everyone from finding out what the protestors actually did and said, then you Kerryrose… are boring and trollish!

The real bad guy is Jerry Brown, the California state government has been running this place like Greece, slashing and burning away anywhere it can when it comes to education and public services. Even the Public Library is being assaulted.

I just concluded the investigation. It’s the angry sergeant who can’t control himself. You clearly see him put it back in its holster when he’s done.

Any guess on how long California is going to keep waging chemical warfare against its college students? They aren’t allowed to use that against enemies in war, but college students are fair game.

That cop should be sent directly to anger management training—the full 52-week program!
