Responding to the State of the Union is an odd honor. You become the face of the opposition for 10 minutes but you have to immediately follow extraordinary rhetoricians at their chosen sport. House Budget Committee Chairperson Paul Ryan gets the job this year. —JCL

Los Angeles Times:

Republicans have tapped Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan to deliver the party’s response to President Obama’s State of the Union address on Tuesday, party officials said Friday.

The choice of Ryan, chairman of the House Budget Committee, is meant to signal the party’s commitment to deficit reduction, the officials said. Ryan will deliver the GOP response from the Budget Committee’s hearing room.

“Paul Ryan is uniquely qualified to address the state of our economy and the fiscal challenges that face our country,” Speaker of the House John Boehner said in a statement. “We’re broke, and decisive action is needed to help our economy get back to creating jobs and end the spending binge in Washington that threatens our children’s future. I’m pleased that Paul will be outlining a common-sense vision for moving our country forward.”

Paul Ryan might have Ronnie Raygun’s hair but not half the brains under it.

Color his hair red and he looks like “Hoover” in Animal House.

Nobody listens to the “Response”.  Good thing because it’s always a sleeper.  And we know what he’ll say, reiterating the bullshit the GOP has been saying since it TOTALLY flip-flopped on deficits in January 2009.

Really, does anyone expect the smug pretty boy to enlighten us in any way or are we to listen to another round of generalities, meanigless talking points, and vague promises to do something(?)as soon as the “DREADED OBAMACARE” is repealed and all of the “JOB KILLING” programs are cut and the reactionaries take back control in ‘12, blah, blah, blah? Republicans, baggers, libertarians, or whatever they call themselves can’t find their asses with both hands nor can they avoid making fools of themselves as demonstrated by the absurdity of Bachmann, King(both), Virginia Fox, Louie Gommert, Barton, Gingrich, Armey….need we go on? Granted, this Ryan character HAS to be more polished than Bobbie J. but when your message is, well, nothing, all you’re doing is still trying to upgrade that pig’s ear! Maybe if ALL of the “Young Guns” got on together they could try for some coherence but I doubt if they’d succeed any more than putting on the famed Witt Bros.(Half, Dim, and Nitt)!
