Rush Limbaugh Plays to the 99 Percent

Limbaugh
AP / Chris Carlson

Could it be that right-wing radio behemoth Rush Limbaugh understands what the Occupy Wall Street movement is really about? Even weirder, could he actually sympathize with the struggle? Maybe, considering a mini-tirade Limbaugh unleashed on his listeners, set off by the occasion of NBC hiring Chelsea Clinton as a “special correspondent.” David Sirota has more in his latest column.

But lest we get too carried away, it’s not like Limbaugh is all that understanding, as this transcript illustrates.  —KA

David Sirota in Salon:

Discussing the recent announcement that Chelsea Clinton — who has no journalistic experience whatsoever — will now be a top correspondent for NBC News, Limbaugh echoed some of the points made (far more cogently) by my Salon colleague Glenn Greenwald. He [Limbaugh] said…:

“All of a sudden she’s at the top of the media. She’s at the top of the ladder. She’s paid no dues. Not born on third base. Born at home plate after the home run. She has not worked anywhere in journalism. She’s never had a job.

“Now, that gets to the other point of this. Let’s go down to Occupy Wall Street or wherever else that there’s an Occupy, or go wherever there is a collection of liberals. What are they mad about? They’re mad about the 1 percent, and what are they mad about about the 1 percent? The 1 percent’s got it all. The 1 percent has everything and they’re not sharing it with anybody, and they didn’t work for it. There aren’t any jobs for anybody else because the 1 percent are making sure they’ve got all the jobs and they’ve got all the money.”

Carl Quinlan:

don’t consider myself “religious”, but as a professing believer in Jesus as my Savior, i can only surmise that maybe God is telling them to shut up.  Beck, as a Mormon, isn’t Christian, i have no idea who or what Rush is.  professing to be a believer and then not acting “neighborly” isn’t kosher.

As a life-long Pittsburgher, I remember El Rusn-mo when he was a 2nd rate DJ at an also-ran radio station back in the 60s. Back then he called himself Jeff Christy and as I recall did not have n much of a following. Knowing that the ol’ bloviator never spent much time in academia, one tends to wonder from whence his “wisdom” emanated. Of course, not much is required when the choir is made up of “ditto heads”!

Rush has been critical of Mitt. He wants a republican nominee who can’t win against Obama, so Rush can continue heckling from the sidelines.

The economy is in free-fall. We are facing collapse. Peak oil, worldwide economic depression, etc. Rush knows this, and he knows his job will be difficult, if not impossible, with a republican in the WH when the s*** hits the f**. That’s why he’s been so critical of Mitt and the republican “establishment” as he calls it. He really wants Perry or Cain to lose, so he can spend the next 4 years saying “Look what this democrat president is doing to our country!”

Also, just curious, a question to all my religious right friends: Rush goes deaf, Beck claims to be going blind… is god trying to tell them something?

probably low on oxycontin. But he’s not playing to the 99%.  He is the 1%. He’s against Clinton, all Clintons, all the time.

That is just part of the Big Fat Idiot’s act, David, and fell for it. Sheesh. You skipped right over the end of his previous paragraph where he mocks the Occupy Movement. He was still mocking the 99%.

Limbaugh is never to be taken seriously. It is an act.

Rush is just jealous. I doubt if he gives a shit about anyone out of work.

Besides, just what does being “on top of the media” mean? On top of a dung pile would be more like it.

Speaking of which, I think Rush’s piles are flaring up again. The ones in his mouth.
