Members of the British Parliament had harsh words for the man at the top of News Corp., stating in a report that a proclivity for keeping himself in the dark about his employees’ activities made him unfit to lead an international company. —ARK

The Guardian:

Rupert Murdoch, the document said, “did not take steps to become fully informed about phone hacking” and “turned a blind eye and exhibited wilful blindness to what was going on in his companies and publications”.

The committee concluded that the culture of the company’s newspapers “permeated from the top” and “speaks volumes about the lack of effective corporate governance at News Corporation and News International”.

That prompted the MPs’ report to say: “We conclude, therefore, that Rupert Murdoch is not a fit person to exercise the stewardship of major international company.”

When this whole thing broke it was one of the sunniest spots in a long run of rainy days in my opinion. I’m so happy to see that it continues to roll out in the right direction. We have in no small way been negatively impacted by this man and his “news” operations. May this be just the beginning of a much needed and intensive correction in all of our thinking about what constitues “news” and what sort of integrity is required of those who are honored to deliver it.
