Rick Perry Called ‘West Coast Metrosexual’ for Taking Off His Cowboy Boots

Apparently Texas Gov. Rick Perry is taking a beating from his state’s answer to the fashionista, in the form of land commissioner and fellow Republican Jerry Patterson.

Patterson, showing a biting sense of humor, took a nip at Perry’s recent back-pain-inspired decision to stop wearing cowboy boots. “I lament the fact that our governor could now pass for a West Coast metrosexual and has embarrassed us all with his sartorial change of direction,” Patterson is quoted by Austin American-Statesman scribe Ken Herman as saying.

Boots have many bonuses, Patterson explained. They allow you to wear white socks with a suit, for one thing. They’re good for hiding “unmentionables.” And they ward off “various ankle biters of differing species.”

Perry is the most-elected governor in the state’s history, having won three times after taking over for George W. Bush. However Texans appear to have tired of their chief executive, and Perry’s numbers reflect it.

In case you were wondering, land commissioner is a pretty big post in the Texas government, splitting some traditional executive duties with the governor, lieutenant governor, and railroad commission, which itself is made up of three people.

Thanks to Political Wire for spotting the quote.
