Prudish Apple Bans Bikinis

If you’re looking for sex appeal, there isn’t an app for that. Apple is killing applications on its iPhone and iPod Touch that show women in such obscene dress as beachwear. Despite parental controls, mature-content warnings and a lack of anything truly provocative, the company apparently decided things had gotten too raunchy.

But here’s where things get stupid. Apple has decided that apps by big names such as Sports Illustrated and Playboy are OK, even if they’re no tamer.  —PZS

New York Times:

Indeed, a Sports Illustrated application tied to its annual swimsuit issue was still available for download on Monday, as was one from Playboy.

When asked about the Sports Illustrated app, Mr. Schiller said Apple took the source and intent of an app into consideration. “The difference is this is a well-known company with previously published material available broadly in a well-accepted format,” he said.

Did you ever notice that despite their ad years ago, Apple has TOTALLY the persona of “Big Brother”?  It’s always “Steve Knows What’s Best!”

This is why consumers should stay away from closed proprietary systems like Apple.  When you buy stuff like this, you are giving another corp control of your device.
