A man is arrested by Oakland police Friday night during protests following the sentencing of a former transit officer in the 2009 killing of unarmed Oscar Grant.

More than 150 people were arrested Friday night as angry protesters marched through the Lake Merritt area of Oakland following the sentencing of a former BART police officer in the killing of a young black man on a transit platform in 2009. The protest was touched off by what was viewed as the lightness of the sentence, two years in prison.

Oscar Grant, 22, was shot in the back by Johannes Mehserle on New Year’s Day, 2009, at a BART platform in Oakland.

Video of the killing is available here. —JCL

AP via MSNBC:

Residents of an Oakland neighborhood besieged by several hundred protesters following the sentencing of a former transit officer have awoken to broken car windows and debris.

Dozens of cars in the neighborhood near Lake Merritt showed signs of damage Saturday morning. Residents told KRON-4 they could not understand why protesters chose their neighborhood.

When 98 % of human beings develop the the ability to over look the color, and economic status of those that are caught in the struggle engineered by both the elite class and those who who in no way even attempt to think rationally, we the majority will continue to be subject to the force of the politics of the elite, to include the use of violent force when they or their retarded minions decide it necessary.

Oscar Grant, was summarily tried then murdered, execution style on video,in public by a member of the fascist police state. The unreasonable expectation that all reactions to this fact would naturally be of a non violent sort is ludicrous. Yet still another example, that those with the political force, will at any time they feel threatened will use violence as an extension of ” their perceived   political right to defend property at the cost killing what ever they perceive as a threat to that structure they are beholding to.

Interesting.  Teabagger candidates and their supporters
call for ‘exercising our 2nd Amendment rights’ but I
don’t think they want them ‘exercised’ in their
neighborhoods, and I don’t think they want ‘black’
people exercising them.  Oops!
