Pro-Romney Super PAC Burns Through $14M in January

It’s campaign season 2012, and how much is your favorite super PAC spending? The telltale signs of democracy in action these days include headlines like the one above, accounting for the giant sum racked up by the pro-Mitt Romney’ super PAC “Restore Our Future,” one of the monstrosities created by the Supreme Court’s Citizens United ruling. That’s $14 million in one month, people. USA! USA!  —KA

The New York Times:

A “super PAC” supporting Mitt Romney blew through $14 million on a three-state advertising binge against his Republican rivals in January, according to campaign reports filed with the Federal Election Commission on Monday.

But the super PAC, Restore Our Future, also raised close to $7 million during the same month, and began February with more than $16 million in the bank, money that has helped pound Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum and may help restore momentum for Mr. Romney as the “Super Tuesday” round of Republican contests next month approaches.

Ordinary Americans cannot compete with the virtually unlimited resources of corporations, especially as these corporations support politicians who will legislate in favor of the corporate interests and against the interests of ordinary citizens. This vicious cycle cannot be stopped from the inside, because the established insiders benefit from the current system and want to maintain it.  Sign the petition for a constitutional amendment to overturn the Citizens United ruling at http://www.democracyisforpeople.org.
