Pope on a Rope: Favorability Rating Falls in U.S. Poll

Pope on a plane: Pope Benedict XVI waves goodbye as he leaves from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York in April 2008 at the end of a six-day visit to the U.S.

Pope Benedict XVI hasn’t exactly won the hearts and minds of Americans in recent weeks, according to the results of a CNN/Opinion Research Corp. survey released Friday, which showed the wear and tear of the ongoing clergy sex scandal on the pope’s public standing among Catholic and non-Catholics alike.  —KA

CNN:

Fifty-nine percent of American Catholics questioned in the poll have a favorable view of the pope, down 19 points from February. Among all Americans, the slippage is even greater: from 59 percent in February to just 35 percent today.

“Only a quarter of U.S. Catholics have an unfavorable view of the pope, but they don’t seem satisfied with his track record on the growing and persistent scandal within the church,” CNN Polling Director Keating Holland said.

You’re an atheist, fine, I’m a deist. And as much as I would like
to ignore the pope and the catholic church, I have come to
realize that by doing so, an institution, such as the catholic
church, which spends inordinately amounts of time and effort to
sway masses of people’s beliefs(give me a child before the age
of 7 and he is mine for life) and these institutions have a known
ability to reappear in such guises as inquisitions, that would
definitely be just like ignoring a cobra in the room that hasn’t
yet bitten you.

I did a search the other day to see if there was anything published on satanic sex
stuff in the church and found this book,

Lucifer’s Lodge: Satanic Ritual Abuse in the Catholic Church
http://www.lulu.com/product/ebook/lucifers-lodge-satanic-ritual-abuse-in-the-
catholic-church/343299

The link is a free download and I highly recommend reading it. It is a very good
book, it treats the subject with a lot of sensitivity. You will be shocked. I know I
was. I also think the church has lost ALL credibility. Read the book and you will see
what I mean.

Amazon.com has several good reviews and three copies for sale. This paperback
runs from $400 to $995 used! Aren’t you glad I found it for you for free?

If you google it, be wary of the download from eBooks, it downloads spyware. Not a
good idea, but very interesting ...

BTW, if truthdig is impressed with my skills and wants a researcher, I’d like a part
time job.

I’m an atheist.

But you guys kill me. Why, as atheists, do you give a shit about the Catholic Church?

Just ignore the Pope and all the crap that’s falling down on the church.

Why do you feel you have to beat up on the church, ya buncha bullies?!

How about this from Thomas Inman’s ‘Ancient Faiths and
Modern’:

“From the moment that christianity became a political power, its
history resembled that of any tyrant or other ruler, and it is filled
with misrepresentations, lying, frauds and records of fighting
and slaughter, of brutal passions, frightful laws and horrible
punishments… In fact, the more loud the proclamation of a pure
christianity, the more devilish is the practice of its heralds.”

The apple does not fall far from the tree.  The Pope would have a hard time getting a job as a boy scout leader. Either would Pope John Paul ll. They kept bad company.

How much more proof does anyone need to see that religion and its leaders are all bullshat? If there was a god there is no doubt in my mind that he’d be an atheist too.

Hundreds of investigators are on the trail of the Pope looking for the hard evidence that will bring the Pope down to Earth. The best evidence would be his semen in the wrong place. Monica Lewinsky embarrassed Bill Clinton with it.

under the vatican so the world can have a look see of all the
things you guys don’t want to see the light of day, much less the

Time for them to quit stalling. Either they know how to look after women and children or they don’t - if they don’t it time for them and their kind to go as there is no room in society for politicians and community leaders to belong to a church which has failed as dramatically at this one.

It is not terribly difficult to know of some of the right things to do - its just that this church does not know how to do those right things - all the more reason why there should be a minimum joining age of 16

A grand inquisitor will arise from the ranks of the parishioners and have the fervor of a saint.  His Inquisition will dig deep into the files of the Vatican and every parish. No pervert will be left behind.  Children who were molested will be interviewed.  Those found guilty of pedophilia will be defrocked. The innocent shall be appointed to lead a cleansed church.
