Financial institutions’ credit card practices and policies represent one area of concern for Americans—and politicians.

President Obama and his allies won’t have an easy time as they attempt to do some major renovations of our financial system, but according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll, they at least have the support of the majority of Americans.  —KA

The Washington Post:

About two-thirds of Americans support stricter regulations on the way banks and other financial institutions conduct their business, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.

Majorities also back two main components of legislation congressional Democrats plan to bring to a vote in the Senate this week: greater federal oversight of consumer loans and a company-paid fund that would cover the costs of dismantling failed firms that put the broader economy at risk.

A third pillar of the reform effort draws a more even split: 43 percent support federal regulation of the derivatives market; 41 percent are opposed. Nearly one in five—17 percent—express no opinion on this complicated topic.

What the citizens of this country want and need is of no concern to the Republican Machine—-never has been. They, along with the Big Money that controls their actions, have had their collective hands around the throats of average Americans since greed was invented. You can rest assured that the Republican Machine will fight to protect its masters with all the vigor of a well-trained guard dog. This is not merely another standard blocking maneuver, not this time; this time it’s for all the marbles, and there will be no compromise on the GOP’s part. This fight is for financial control over what makes the rich richer and the poor poorer.

“So what?  Seventy percent were in favor of single payer too.  This is not your Democracy anymore.”

Correct on both points!

“The obvious:  Countries that regulated their banks have not had bank failures.
Canada has had no bank failures during this latest fiasco.  The supply side and
deregulation types cannot point out any long-term successes anywhere.“

And yet nary a word on the MSM.

Never said it was my democracy any more and I would say that
can be taken back to when the bankers got woodrow wilson
elected in lieu of his signing the federal reserve act of 1913.

Or go back to the beginning of this country’s patch work
government put together with the express purpose of trying to
deny the aristocracy control which that have now managed to
get, be it 150 to 200 years later.

I’m sorry I did not realize this, but you bet, there wasn’t even a
need for a poll unless it was for getting it put on the books so to
speak. In short also, that poll could have been taken 8 years ago
and I don’t think the results would have been much different.

The biggest obviousness of all is the incompetence of congress
and their down right complicity in a major criminal event of
grand larceny, the lowest dregs in america making it to the fast
track to becoming an ‘elite’ at the people’s expense.

There is one thing needs adding to any overhaul is the auditing
of all member’s of congress financial statements, here and
abroad because that would catch them at making personal
financial gain by taking bribes.

Was it really necessary to even take a poll on this issue? Unemployment and bailout figures weren’t enough? That alone was the proverbial slap in the face challenge to a duel. Let’s get it on already. All that’s needed is the weapons, meaning the legislation and Economics 101 for the sake of the citizenry. Let the heads (CEO’s) fall. All our Congress seems to do is waste time like they were getting paid by the hour, or something.

I am positive Pres. Obama will encounter much
resistance in his attempts to tune-up Wall Street.
I watched Pres. Obama Sunday afternoon, April 26th,
on CNN speak at the Memorial for the 29 miners
killed in a West Virginia coal mine explosion on
April 5th.  First, I was impressed he just took the
time to go to the Memorial let alone speak to the
audience composed of the heart broken family members and friends of the deceased miners.  In his speech
President Obama ask the audience to seek comfort by
seeking the face of God.  Then he quoted Psalm 23.
I was raised in a West Virginia coal mining community
where I would lay in bed at night as a youngster
and wait until I heard my father speaking to my mother in the kitchen downstairs.  Then I could go
to sleep because he had made it home safely from
another shift in the mines.  Families in coal
mining community have a lot of faith in God.  When
they heard the words by their President mentioning
God I know how much it meant to them.  This morning
I decided to watch Pat Robertson on The 700 Club to
see what he would say about the memorial and Pres.
Obama’s speech.  To my dismay Pat Robertson didn’t
even mention the memorial and speech by Pres. Obama.
This afternoon I sent the following e-mail to Pat
Robertson.  Wonder if he will respond?

Pat—-During The 700 Club today you neglected to cover the Memorial yesterday, April 25th, in Beckley, West
Virginia to the 29 coal miners killed in an explosion on April 5.  April 25th has special meaning to me.  It would
have been my father’s 96 birthday if he was alive.  He worked in the mines 40 years in West Virginia.  My
grandfather worked 50. I worked midnight shift 6 months while attending undergraduate school.

President Obama spoke graciously at the Memorial asking the families of the deceased miners to seek
comfort by seeking the face of God.  President Obama also quoted Psalm 23.  I would think you would have
covered the speech to let Christians throughout our nation know their President is speaking about God and
quoting the Bible.  Yet, you neglected the Memorial and President Obama’s speech.  I pray the neglect was not
because the President is a Democrat and not a Republican.  Surely you don’t put politics before God.

In the 1970’s, after my engagement broke up to a beautiful Christian lady I loved very much, I brought the wedding
rings to The 700 Club, gave them to your producer, John Cardoza, and ask him to sell the rings and use the
money to spread the word of God.  If it wouldn’t be too much trouble could you please respond to this e-mail and
let me know the reason you neglected to cover the Memorial and President Obama’s speech?  Thank you very much.

What the people want is not in line with what those financial
terrorists pay for for unfettered financial dealings. They are all
criminals and deserving of prosecution and hard hard time with
all assets confiscated. And they can take that goddamn toad
richard shelby with them, check his financial earnings from
being paid off, it will show he has earned hard time but also the
privilege of being tarred and feathered. Hope to goodness that
his dying is hard and soon to happen. FAT ASS TOAD BASTARD.
