After many long months of leading U.S. forces in Afghanistan, Gen. David Petraeus is said to be considered for, and considering, the easy and relaxing job of CIA director. Meanwhile, current CIA chief Leon Panetta reportedly has his sights set on the Pentagon.  —KA

NPR:

General David Petraeus, commander of U.S. forces in Afghanistan, is expected to leave that job by early fall. And the question has been, where does he go from there?

Several sources, including government officials, say Petraeus is being seriously considered for CIA director, and would take the job if offered.

The current spy chief, Leon Panetta, is currently seen as the top replacement for Defense Secretary Robert Gates, who says he will step down this year.

And look at this defunct soldier’s name tag in the picture!

It is CROOKED!

Isn’t this the guy who told Obama off?

Really shows where the buck stops, doesn’t it?

And that would be the reward for doing such a great job and ‘winning’ Afghanistan, I gather.

I won’t attack Gen Petraeus integrity or ability. He’s well educated and performed jobs I suspect career officers ducks with aplomb. However, in the end, we judge great leaders by their success, or lack of it. He’s failed. Neither Iraq nor Afghanistan have any reasonable prospect of peace or stability due to the General’s leadership. By all means, blame Bush and his crew, as well as Faux Peacenik Obama and his Ivy Warriors, for the chaos that will eventually erupt in Central Asia after thousands of casualties, social disruption and trillions of wasted dollars. Does Petraeus develop intelligence sources that are accurate, or has his intelligence been ignored or distorted by the dishonest civilians to whom he’s reported? I don’t know. Congress should ask. But it won’t.  The blood of the the Silk Route stains both parties which have waged these inane and grossly excessive wars to secure what? Suicide bombings and deterioration of already fraying societies?

Next stop, full fledged fascist POS after all voting is rigged like any other banana
republic. Get those spanking new privatized prisons up and running ASAP, we’re
gonna need them. Imbedded bare codes, identity chips. and implanted GPS
trackers, will all be mandatory. You are either with us or against us. Amen and
adios suckers.

I suppose it is either naive paranoia or delusional
romance that engenders worries that an acting head of
the US military should head a civilian intelligence
network.

Kill teams, Blackwater, torture, “collateral damage”, secret prisons, pentagon cover-ups! Are we kidding? This guy is a F—KING WAR CRIMINAL! It’s been on his watch that all of the atrocities documented in Wikileaks as well as domestic publications and the international press have occurred! Where has this nation’s morality gone? How many of the Axis high-ranking military personnel were summarily executed for war crimes after WWII for crimes against humanity no different than those being committed now under this guy’s command? Have we as a nation lost our collective minds?

Drat, another opportunity missed!

What if someone in government had the good sense to bring Gen. Dave Petraeus and his whole Afghan army back to the states, right now?! And had him command his troops in a massive, all-out attack, a ‘Shock and Awe’ offensive, if you will, to kick-off a newly declared war!?

The ‘WAR ON WALL STREET’, a war the whole nation, in fact, the whole world, would unanimously support, a war that would show the US is finally regaining it’s senses, and beginning to earn back the admiration and respect it once had in such abundance. Before those thieving, mendacious, unregulated, amoral, self-designated ‘Masters of the Universe’, those Wall Street cretins, began their criminal depredations.

Think of the glorious day of victory, when the CEO’s and the Minor Mobsters of Wall Street did their perp walks, in balls and chains, out of their towers of ill-gotten gold, and down the middle of the street toward their imprisonments, with assembled crowds of magnitudes unbeforeseen lining the sidewalks, all singing ‘Happy Days are Here Again’, while expectorating on the marching-to-prison miscreants.

There’s a war we really need, and an assignment that would bring glory back to Good Old Dave.

Finally, Old Dave’s dream is coming true. Now he’s going to be able to command the vast armies who hit the beaches first, who get in there and instigate the wars, instead of having to follow-along later and try to clean up the messes caused by ‘all those imbecile spy-bumblers’, as the top Pentagon brass refers to CIA agents
‘Course, he’s going to have to learn to tone-down his rhetoric, ‘cause shouting ‘We’re gonna win this effing-thing, no matter what it looks like and what the facts are’ to the World Press on every occasion about every war he’s involved in, will not be seemly for a CIA CIC. He’ll have to learn the sly smirk, the all-knowing wink, that gets across the same idiotic, unrealistic self-delusion to those-in-the-know.
And it will sure be nice for him to be able to keep doing almost all the same things he’s been doing, but in secret (more or less). If he plays his cards right as the CIA head, generations will pass before his screw-ups become known.
