I believe they used to refer to this as “Light at the End of the Tunnel.”

What a stupid no-good story. “Did he care about the casualties,” (John Simpson) asked. !!!
He’s going to say no??? Duh!
What is the purpose of a content-less story like this? Is the significance in the fact that, contrary to impressions of administrative inadequacy cast by McChrystal for Rolling Stone, Petraeus, hearing the buzz that the Pentagon is taking the war out of Obama’s hands, is eager to reassure us that there is no such intention at the Pentagon and that we are all perfectly safe from a military dictatorship?

Earth to Petraeus. Afghanistan is not Iraq and Iraq is not Germany and this is not the forties. The war in Afghanistan is not a just war and has no legality. The war in Iraq, ditto. He can spruik his weasel words as much as he likes but the facts always come back to bite you in the end.
