Paul Ryan: Rape Is a ‘Method of Conception’

According to GOP vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan—the man who could be a heartbeat away from becoming president if Mitt Romney is elected in November—rape is a form of conception.

Yes, you read that right. Ryan—who comes from the party that brought you such ridiculous notions as women rarely get pregnant from “legitimate rape” and a child conceived from rape is just like a child born out of wedlock—added one more to the chorus of stupid GOP ideas on rape during a recent interview. Because clearly there are not enough to make your head spin yet.

“I’m very proud of my pro-life record. I’ve always adopted the idea that the method of conception doesn’t change the definition of life,” he said during an interview with television station WJHL. In that statement, Ryan basically admits that he believes 1) rape is a form of conception and 2) it’s equal to conception by consensual sex because both produce life. This reasoning is apparently why Ryan opposes the rape exception for abortion.

As The Huffington Post’s Paul Slansky put it: “Wow, right? Talk about a benign euphemism. Rape—RAPE!—is now a ‘method of conception.’ You know, like lovemaking, just without the love.”
