Occupy Wall Street Gets Real on MTVPosted on Oct 29, 2011
MTV is developing reality shows inspired by Occupy Wall Street; the tea party turns its back on Michele Bachmann; and a British cleric resigns rather than retract his support of the Occupy London protests. These discoveries and more below. On a regular basis, Truthdig brings you the news items and odds and ends that have found their way to Larry Gross, director of the USC Annenberg School for Communication. A specialist in media and culture, art and communication, visual communication and media portrayals of minorities, Gross helped found the field of gay and lesbian studies. It’s hard to say whether OWS on MTV would be good or
not, it depends upon how it’s depicted. I can see
the pros and cons, but I’d definitely watch it.
Regarding the same article, “MTV Horns In on Occupy
Wall Street”, there’s a link to “Lemony Snicket’s
instruction guide”. This is a must see and not just
for children. A couple of examples (and the direct
link):
“1. If you work hard, and become successful, it
does not necessarily mean you are successful because
you worked hard, just as if you are tall with long
hair it doesn’t mean you would be a midget if you
were bald.
11. Historically, a story about people inside
impressive buildings ignoring or even taunting people
standing outside shouting at them turns out to be a
story with an unhappy ending.”

Lemony Snicket’s books are excellent. I enjoyed them
Report thisas much as my son when we read them together. It’s
encouraging and heartwarming to see someone use their
incredible talent this way.

Hey, OWS on MTV could be a good thing. If the show is successful and runs long enough, maybe the “star” protesters can use their residual income to further fund the movement. Now that’s lemons into lemonade, no? - TheEnd
