Foreclosure

Those critics of Occupy Wall Street who claimed the movement lacked direction might look to foreclosed homes around the country, as well as housing auctions at select banks, where activists turned up Tuesday as part of the Occupy Our Homes initiative. What will they Occupy next?  —KA

CNNMoney:

Occupy Our Homes said it’s embarking on a “national day of action” to protest the mistreatment of homeowners by big banks, who they say made billions of dollars off of the housing bubble by offering predatory loans and indulging in practices that took advantage of consumers.

In Atlanta, Occupy Our Homes activists went to the courthouses in three of the area’s largest counties, DeKalb, Gwinnett and Fulton, Tuesday morning to disrupt the foreclosure auctions happening there.

“We’re using our voices, whistles and other noise. The auctioneers don’t know what to do and some of the buyers left,” said Tim Franzen, an Occupy Atlanta spokesman. The group is demanding an immediate moratorium on all foreclosures, he said.

Interesting, isn’t this just organized squatting? Come to think of it, I’m going to look up squatter’s rights in my State to see if there is a real estate play here…

Your article should enlighten everyone but not the way you want it to - your article states that the Occupy movement wants to:

“...protest the mistreatment of homeowners by big banks, who they say made billions of dollars off of the housing bubble by offering predatory loans and indulging in practices that took advantage of consumers…”

Please remember nobody put a gun to the head of the people signing the mortgages who took on too much debt they knew they couldn’t afford - they are part of the same problem as the Wall Street risk takers - without careless risk taking the bubble wouldn’t have happened if everyone lived within their means and were personally liable when their luck ran out ... The people who racked up credit card debt, took on houses with mortgages they couldn’t afford, these people are just as bad as the Wall Streeters and I have no sympathy for them.

This is great. As we see more of the actions Occupy
engages in, the better it looks. I know they had
already done things similar to this and they were
encouraging.

I also think that an important aspect of the movement
is physically occupying. I imagine that in some
climates this is very difficult, but if you can set-
up sufficiently I think it could be relatively
comfortable, at least as far as tent camping goes.

Some wonderful Christmas opportunities are behind this idea! Go for it, Occupiers!
