Obama Warns of the Threat of Nuclear Terrorism

President Barack Obama welcomed delegates from 47 nations to Tuesday’s session of the Nuclear Security Summit in Washington, D.C., with a tribute to the Polish representatives in attendance and a moment of silence for their loss before striking a note of warning about the very real threat of nuclear terrorism that exists today, which the president called “a cruel irony of history” following the end of the Cold War.  —KA

AP via Google News:

“Terrorist networks such as al-Qaida have tried to acquire the material for a nuclear weapon, and if they ever succeeded, they would surely use it,” he told the opening session, which convened under tight security at the Washington Convention Center. “Were they to do so, it would be a catastrophe for the world, causing extraordinary loss of life and striking a major blow to global peace and stability.”

Lurking in the background at the nuclear security summit was a problem some see as equally worrisome: Iran’s alleged pursuit of a nuclear weapon. Iran, which was not invited to the conference, denies it intends to build an atomic bomb, and despite widespread concern about Iranian intentions, Obama is having difficulty getting agreement on a new set of U.N. sanctions against the country.

OzarkMichael, the evidence just keeps piling up as evidenced by the over 9 million search hits regarding the matter.  One would have to be a complete imbecile to believe the official government story.

Thanks for the offer of “kidney protectors” but I have a 45 in close reach for zionist interlopers should the need arise.

All the world’s “nuke” powers get together to discuss how to unload—except Iran and North Korea.
They are not “invited” because ... because?  Well, they are trying to get nukes.  And Israel? Because it isn’t interested in controls on its “options”. So the three countries who most ought to be there are not there.

“Terrorists” might get nukes secretly.  We are not “terrorists”—in spite of Hiroshima and Nagasaki?  No, of course not.  We aren’t even sorry!
We are good guys.  We “ended” WWII by dropping A-bombs. Total lack of honesty and penitence, though some sense of unrelieved guilt may be lurking in the background.

At the same time we ask other countries to agree to nuclear weapons regulations, Russia and US should take stronger, immediate leadership themselves to get rid of what’s on hand and control what they themselves are buying, selling and hiding. Real U.S. leadership would mean bold steps to stop present wars and push the goal of world peace as a real possibility. Stop the lop-sided, exculpatory definition of “terrorism” that allows us to escape as the “good guys.” Admit the similar needs of all humanity, and strengthen the UN by getting rid of the dominance of the “Security” Council.
All for one; one for All, or somethng like, since we are all human and there is only on precious little Earth.

Work first toward agreement among nuclear “powers” to take all nuclear weapons “off the table” forever.  No fiarst use. No second use.  No use whatsoever, ever.  What a relief that would be!

Maybe you already have some ‘evidence’ cooked up and ‘videotape’ to prove it?

Oh yeah, PatrickHenry, I have something you need!

I am selling special kidney protectors that you can strap onto your back at night so the corporate zionists dont steal your kidneys while you are sleeping.

Kind of a narrow threat here,o, as who would have the nukes to
sneak into the u.s. to ‘terrorize’ us with or would the taliban and
al qaeda launch one from their nuclear submarines or strategic
bombers? Or, are you hinting that russia, uk, france, china or
chile are about to attack the u.s. and melt us? I mean if those
‘people in a cave’ were able to sneak in and set the wto towers
and blg 7 to demolition, what else are they capable of? Wonder
if old marvin bush is wringing his hands in dispair for allowing
them to get away with wiring those buildings while he was chief
security officer at that time.

And seems we are already melting from the financial terrorist’s
attack that you aided and abetted by giving those f.t.‘s the
taxpayer’s money so in reality, o, you are the threat to america
and not those high tech rag heads you and others claim that are
about the ‘wipe us out’.

Thank heavens I choose no to listen to your sweet thick syrupy
tongue precisely arguing your rhetoric. Perfect ‘presidential
attire, a perfect manicured lawn on top of your head and
absolutely perfect articulation does not a president make as
your brother w, so well illustrated in his fraudulent terms.

This kind of forum is what Obama adores. It gives him a platform where he can deliver big, set-piece, speeches, and let the rhetoric… fly!

The whole idea is to scare the living daylights out of the American people about a threat that doesn’t really exist and arguably never will.

Whilst, in theory, terrorists might be able to get their hands on highly radioactive material; plutonium, uranium, turning these deadly substances into a usable weapon - an atomic bomb - is an entirely different subject. If making a bomb was that easy, that terrorists could do it in some cave in Afghanistan, it would have already been done, and not just by some terrorist group, but by a host of countries.

Making a workable bomb is; very expensive, requires highly trained, competent and skilled scientists, a lot of equipment and some place to do it where one won’t be detected. Also even if one managed, by some miracle, to actually put some kind of bomb together, how would one know if it worked or not without testing it? How would one test it without detection? If one put a homemade atomic bomb in an American city just to test it, an enormous task in itself, and it didn’t go off, the country thought to be responsible for harbouring the terrorists would then be wiped off the map in retaliation. That’s a pretty big risk to take with a bomb that hasn’t been tested.

One has to ask oneself why Obama is conjuring up this “real and present danger” when he must surely know, that such an eventuality is, outside the realm of science fiction, close to impossible.

This scare is aimed at softening up public opinion for an attack on Iran, which being a state, could at some point if they chose, or felt threatened enough from Israel or the United States, develope a nuclear weapon. Unlike Bush, Obama has enough political capital left, just about, to launch an attack on Iran, and get away with it politically. Which, after all, if why he was chosen to lead the empire. A bright, silky, new face; but the same old empire, with the same old interests underneath.

Correction to my last post, written, as usual, in too much eagerness and haste.  Should read:
“to show how retrograde threats are.”
Please excuse that, and consider this:  Obama (for whatever reason) based his preliminary remarks mostly on the danger of “terrorists” getting nuclear weapons.  What, do you think, was going on all during the Cold War?  Terrorism?  Rather like!
And what about Hiroshima and Nagasaki, so conveniently shoved out of sight, into the vaults of history? Nuclear weapons have terrorized the entire world for decades!

Nevertheless, and even if we don’t know what will come of this meeting, surely the world’s ordinary people everywhere are praying that it will bring about reduction of nuclear weapons everywhere and entirely—though that’s a vague hope as long as “nukes” are an emblem of superior status.

Think of that for a moment:  If you have weapons that kill and sicken tens of thousands of people at one fell swoop, and can perhaps destroy the world for all human purposes, you have a “higher” status than if you don’t have such weapons.  Insane?  Yes.
People really need to come together on this one, regardless, and re-assert their right to stay alive.
The U.S., simply because we developed and used this weapon first, are the ones who have to create the worldwide will to eliminate them

The U.S. rants and raves about possible loose nukes, when the only thing loose is the U.S. War Industry that has been pulverizing the surface of the Middle East, for the last two decades, with depleted uranium munitions.

Prior to this, it unabashedly incinerated the population centers of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and here we are again, unable and unwilling to see the reflection in the mirror.

Its been really screwing up the local DC traffic by creating a “Green” zone around capitol hill.

I worry about the military corporate zionists ability of perpetuating a nuclear false flag, kinda like they did 9/11.

Threatening has been the modus operandi of governments—particularly the U.S. and Russia since the “nuclear age—but previously everywhere,
for centuries.  (“We’ve got bigger rocks than you!”  “We have a machine that throws the biggest rocks!”)
I point this out not to justify threats, but to show how retrograde they is.
I believe Obama sincerely wants to get past this stage, but it will be a long, hard slog, especially if his own people won’t help him.

Also please remember Hillary’s profound statement during her presidential
campaign ” we will obliterate them ” in reference to Iran. Maybe thats why Barry
made her Secretary of State.

What a hypocrite. Obama himself personified nuclear terrorism by threatening Iran with destruction when it doesn’t have a single nuke.
