With a relative drop in the bailout bucket, the president thinks he can save 300,000 teachers who would otherwise be kept by economic calamity from annoying America’s children. The money would go to state and local governments struggling to make ends meet.

Christian Science Monitor:

Mr. Obama has intimated in the past that the federal government’s job of propping up the economy was not yet done. Last week, he sent a letter to Congress supporting efforts to pass two separate measures totaling as much as $50 billion in aid for states and cities.

With states still facing large budget shortfalls, Obama wants to minimize the potential loss of teachers, law-enforcement officers, and firefighters. He estimates that as many as 300,000 teachers could be laid off. In this way, the money would largely pick up with the $787 billion federal stimulus bill left off.

Of course, the Republicans and their ideological followers will oppose this.
They believe that taxpayer money should go to more worthwhile causes, such as
making war on anyone who doesn’t share our religious values; or the top 1
percent of the most wealthy so they will be able to to afford a yacht upgrade next
year; or mega-corporations in order to strengthen their ability to create
monopolies; or cleaning up the oil in the gulf, so that B.P. isn’t forced to lose any
of the billions in annual revenue it takes in.  But God forbid that it should go to
teachers, firemen, or police.

Obama is a sociopathic lier.  These additional funds will not go to teachers, firemen, or policemen.  They will go to political hacks and their cronies.  Puleeeese stop listening to Obama.

You can also bet, alot of this money will go to the state public employees retirement funds, which alot, not all, of public employees and their unions have used to scam the taxpayers in each state.

hello. i want $32 billion for my aunt in Ocala. she is a good person, and is extremely charitable, and deserves a more dignified life: of lavish spending and sheltered security; than she is currently able to afford. just fire through a bill before midnight this Saturday, and you will never hear from me again; maybe. she used to like me. there was that swimming pool incident, and i do not know what her daughter said to her in private (that was an unrelated incident) and i hope that she has moved forward, and changed her opinion of me. hope and change spending.

So Pres. Obama want money for teacher’s and other community workers.  I would
like to tell the Pres. what I want.  I would like the innocent social worker, father of
4 children who are citizens born in the UK and now kept incarcerated for 8 very
long horrible years with no visitation & years in absolute solitaire, scheduled to be
released since 2007 and yet still 1,000’s of people with books, movies and fliers
campaigning for his release from Guantanamo.

Sincerely,

Susan Hall

We need the Federal Government to lessen its share of taxes on individuals so the state can afford a larger share for teachers.  I believe the Feds should derive all their taxes from corporations since the corporations seem to control their actions.

As far as Police go, we have too many.  The current ones should be paid more but be better educated and less of them.  When they have idle time to pull over seat belt violators, there are too many.

This is good news. This is where our money should be
going rather than for wars and corporate welfare.

These teachers’ jobs could all have been saved in the original stimulus plan if Obama and the Democrats had not caved in to the Republicans and wasted over half the package on tax breaks.  But better late than never, I suppose.
Now watch the Republicans and the select Democrats stop the measure dead in its tracks because “it increases the deficit.”
Then watch the recession continue for another five years.

Better yet. 1. Why take it from the taxpayers of state and local governments in the first place? 2. Why must it be laundered thru Washington first?

Answers:
1. It shouldn’t be.

2. Power and control over YOUR life.

“The money would go to state and local governments struggling to make ends meet.”

With no strings attached, you can be sure of that.
