Obama to Propose Spending FreezePosted on Jan 25, 2010
As part of his State of the Union address Wednesday, the president is expected to call for a three-year freeze on non-military, non-entitlement discretionary spending that amounts to a small fraction of the budget. It’s a stunt, for the most part, aimed at soothing budget-conscious independents. That doesn’t mean it won’t hurt. Freeze is actually the wrong word. Because Barack Obama’s plan, as it’s being reported, doesn’t allow for inflation, it’s actually more of a spending cut. So how is the White House going to pay for this middle class mini-stimulus package that was announced Monday? By sneaking it into the current fiscal year, before the budget freeze kicks off in October. Here’s why this is just silly. The United States spends about a trillion dollars a year on the military, including the wars and homeland security. The White House’s best estimate of savings from its spending freeze/cut (and again, this is according to media reports) is $250 billion over 10 years. Whoop-dee-doo. —PZS

Of course the msm wouldn’t be the msm if they did anything other than provide us with bread and circuses. It’s their job.
I listen to and read a lot of right wing stuff, needless to say, and their complaint is the same as yours regarding the msm- just from the other side of the spectrum. For instance, they are as apoplectic about Keith Olbermann as you probably are about Glenn Beck.
There really are grains of pepper in all the fly shit. You just have to let your heart figure out what’s what.

By what you say, I would say we both have similar attitudes and concerns about this country and I am NOT delusional about the U.S.A. and the dire straights it is in and all under the governmental and elitist delusion that this is still a very well
functioning republic democracy.
I am very pissed off about what is the corporate msm handling of that large enough segment of the people that maintains a stupidity and ignorance which prevents a even slight hint in this part of the people the ability to recognize real issues as they exist and will happen.
I would think you would know what samosamo is, the same old crap coming from the people WE elect and who promptly turn around to welcome the lobbyist who are actually criminals bribing the people we elect and now all 3 branches of OUR
government are infected with the same old routine of personal gain from being elected to office.
I am unemployed or maybe a better description is that I am semi-retired and living off of my savings from the job I was severed from just 2 years ago so relax n the idea that you are paying for my existence, I just hope in another year and
a half to collect S.S. which I have paid into for 40 years or so, if it is still there.
I feel threaten by the somnolent public, via the conservative MSM, and the idea that as much as I try to believe in this internet system and what gets out to those of us that use it for information, far too much that is pertinent never reaches
those that it should.
Meaning that breaking up the 4 or 5 owners of the msm is top most priority to me to get real information to people instead of the crappy infotainment that is constantly pumped out to keep the comfortably numb and space cadet glow feeling that it produces.
I fear that this country will have to actually break for it to come back to something better as the status quo right now is too easy to rely on for far too many people.
Public money (taxes), it is sickening to see the GRAND LARCENY that is so rampant and the ‘drunken sailor’ spending spree our government is on and on that I am not delusional because as you should know, it would not take but the saudis to start trading oil in euros or china and japan to call in our debt for our
economy to fail before the stock market closed on any given day.
Refreshing to read that you ‘don’t hate me’ and I would say the same to you but I also don’t look or hope not to see a total lock step in our thoughts and views but I have say being a ‘proxy’ isn’t what I want.
Running long so I am through.

You, sir, are the one who is delusional about the nature of this country.
You told me in a previous post that you were unemployed.
“...mask of a moniker…” That’s rich coming from you. Is “samsamo” your real name?
I’m really not attacking you personally. I’m using you as a proxy (I miss folktruther!) for all the whiny, rage-against-the-machine posters on truthdig who are experts at bitching about how horrible the US is and who’s to blame, but have NOT ONE coherent, sensible(!), workable(!!!) suggestion about how to fix it. (“Soak the rich” is NOT a solution. Dismantle the Defense Department is NOT a solution.)
Believe me, the existence of taxpayers is no delusion. The existence of tax leeches is no delusion. You must be a leech because you feel threatened by the prospect of Obama’s spending cuts. I, on the other hand, welcome them. It’s MY money he’s spending.

Go ahead, boycott Rolex. Like you have a choice. You need a job to be able to afford a Rolex.
I’d worry too about Obama cutting spending if I were you. That government tit you’re so addicted to might just get too small for you to nuzzle up to.
Suggestion- spend more time looking for a job, and less time surfing the web. We’ll all be better for it.

After Obama gave it all away to the military-mercenary complex, the financial
institutions and banks, and (almost) to the insurance industry, Obama is going
to quickly ‘freeze’ spending to limit services for the middle class.
This man, his advisors and his policies must be replaced by a Democrat. End

This is ‘middle class’ baloney is a sorry charade. If he wanted to help the

The liberal class can argue whether the beloved Obama is war hawk or not, but the fact is, ever since those CIA agents were blown up by their own double agent, the predator robot drone assassinations have been ramped up, way beyond even what Baby Bush called for. Apparently, this new (and getting old very quick) administration endorses the idea of collective punishment for anyone who dares to resist American occupation of their countries.
Report thisBillions of dollars are continuously stuffed down this rat hole, and none of Obama’s “change we can believe in” followers have the guts to expose his cowardly excuses that permit this to continue. Instead, so many try to rationalize actions that are totally insane and watch as the world’s resources, of all kinds, are wasted for the sake of this abstract murderous enterprise. Toynbee was correct: militarism is always the greatest threat to human civilization.

“Because Barack Obama’s plan, as it’s being reported, doesn’t allow for inflation, it’s actually more of a spending cut.”
Seeing as the government also controls inflation (by the Fed’s regulation of the amount of new currency printed), he could mitigate this issue by also calling for an inflation freeze.

When I first read this, I was happy. I thought Obama was going to finally take on the massive war machine complex in the USA, even by just freezing their huge budget along with the others.
Then I read he will exempt the more the half of discretionary spending that is laughingly called “National Defense”.
I wish McCain had won. If he proposed what Obama has done, progressives would have screamed and protested. I have to hand it to the big Corporations, they really fooled the American people with the last election. They put one of their boys in charge, and now no one will challenge Obama the right wing Republican, because he is black, or half-black.
Its time to find a new Democrat to back for 2014. I say Ralph Nader, who warned us that Gore and Obama were fake.

right and next month he’ll announce a tax cut ... if he can bear to wait that long ...
Announcing and/or leaking this 48 hours before the State of the Union allows that proverbial “lie” to get around the globe more times than anyone can count ... before the “truth” of this proposal even gets out of the can ...
Reports seem to be that nothing “important” including stimulus funds will be cut ...
So expect cries of “window-dressing” and “meaningless gesture” before breakfast tomorrow.

The spending freeze is a bad idea at a time when unemployment is over 10 percent. It teaches the public the wrong lesson about economics. Spending should be increased to deal with stagnation. (Remember the stimulus.) Cutting spending exacerbates the problem. That is the lesson of the Great Depression. Countercyclical policies need to be pursued.
