Obama Responds to a Changing Mideast in Arab Spring SpeechPosted on May 19, 2011
Addressing the upheavals that have occurred and transformations still in progress in the Middle East (except for one notable omission), President Barack Obama put the big shifts that the Arab Spring brought in a broader context during a major speech on Thursday at the State Department. It was no small feat, as the president was tasked with acknowledging America’s very active role in supporting (not to mention sparking) regime change in various nations—most prominently in Tunisia, Egypt and Libya—as well as quelling fears that his focus has become too global at the expense of the domestic. Oh, and while he was at it, he also took on the foundering Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations as he anticipated Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit later in the week. And finally, there were these three highly significant words to acknowledge: Osama bin Laden. —KA Read the full text of Obama’s speech here. Update: Video added below.

“He went on about how history teaches that the empowerment of women makes a nation richer and more peaceful.”
It is becoming clear that ‘empowerment of women’ kills a nation. In the nations where women are ‘empowered’, that is, where they make up a significant portion of the work force, they are not doing what they have traditionally done, that is, have babies. Thus the birth rate of the US white population, as well as the birth rates of many European nations, are below the replacement level, and their populations are declining.

The Obama speech, and the Netanyahu dismissal
Report thisactually make our motives increasingly clear. The
Obama speech was motivated by the desire to get on
the right side of history. It was met by indifference
and distrust in the ME, especially in Egypt, by
reformers who watched the US stand on the sidelines
and only declare for the reformers after it was
apparent that Mubarak was toast. Obama’s comments on
Israel and Palestinian negotiations broke no new
ground. The reaction of Netanyahu, his unyielding
rejection of all the Palestinian positions, i.e. the
return to 1967 borders, the right of return, and the
right to make East Jerusalem the capital of the new
Palestinian state- negated any reason for
negotiations. Previous American actions are
interrelated. A short while ago the US was the only
veto in the UNSC to the resolution that declared the
Israeli settlements ‘illegal’, in support of existing
resolutions. Despite the threat of diplomatic
isolation from previous US agreements that these
settlements were in fact illegal. Had the resolution
passed, it would have removed the settlements as legitimate
bargaining chips(facts on the ground). Since they
could only be legitimized by a negotiated treaty,
only if agreed to by the Palestinians. The position
of Netanyahu, carefully articulated, referred to the
1967 borders as ‘indefensible’ and ignoring the new
‘realities’ of the changes on the ground.
Indefensible because the settlements would reside
outside of Israel proper, in the new Palestinian
state. Outside of the protection by the IDF. The new
realities are the hundreds of thousands of settlers
and settlements in the WB and other territories that
would be on Palestinian land. Indefensible, not due
to the new PA air forces or nuclear arsenal, but
because the settlers would have to become Palestinian
citizens and adhere to their laws. Israeli military
forces would have to withdraw. The shaky, weak
government of Netanyahu would collapse immediately
should the his government abandon the settlers to
international law, or in any new treaty. Only the
Palestinians could legitimize the settlements, by
agreeing to accept them as part of the bargaining and
the negotiation of new borders. Carving out a major
section of the WB where the IDF could continue to
shelter and protect the settlers. Obama in referring
to land swaps gives an opening for Israel to retain
their settlements despite their patent illegality.
Therefore the insistence in direct, discreet
negotiations. His dismissal of the September vote for
statehood in the UNGA reflects the weakness of the US
position and its inability to exercise a veto. With
the overwhelming majority of nations supporting
statehood, including our allies the vote would
accelerate the diplomatic isolation of both the US
and Israel. It would increase pressure to remove and
bypass the US as the mediator, and chief obstructer
of successful negotiations. The Palestinian factions
quickly rejected the idea of abandoning the UN vote
on their statehood. The Arab street has openly
expressed skepticism and indifference to the Obama
appeals-now that history has left the US behind. The
‘Arab Spring’ is about liberating the masses from the
numerous dictators we created and supported for many
decades. Attempting to bribe(pandering to) the Egyptians with
promises of debt relief and economic aid is too
little and far too late. Our control is slipping away
along with our reputation and influence. No one is
fooled. If the empire cared about human rights, they
wouldn’t have been using our Egyptian allies to
torture our suspects. Change is in the air,
unstoppable and continuing as we watch from the
sidelines. Palestinians with no hope of a military
conquest can win their state by non violence and the
support of the overwhelming nations of the world.

Ardee I suggest that you go looking on the internet
to see how much of what I say is true. I am just quoting
what I heard in Israel from religious Jews who were
convinced that secular Jews in American were going
to bring on the deluge again. When you go looking for the information about
Jewish influence avoid the anti-Semitic sites like the plague. They are few
compared with the Jewish sites that brag about this rising control over the USA
and Europe, and the anti-Jewish racist sites are are not nearly as well done as
the pro-Jewish racist sites. Yes, there is some question as to whether or not it
is really fair to call Murdock a Jew, and Steve Jobs is a bit of an unknown, but
the ownership or control of most of the most important TV networks is pretty
straightforward. Facebook, Google, Del, PayPal, and Ebay are all Jewish, or so
say various pro-Jewish web sites.
Not long ago I ran a search for “who makes porn,” and up immediately with a
site apparently run by a Jewish organization that absolutely gushed about how
that industry has always been dominated by secular Jews. I once tried to post
that link on a comment here, and the comment was automatically deleted. I
very rarely post anything other than here, but I do occasionally raise this issue
here, because this seems a logical place to discuss this most dangerous of
issues. The Jews who run this site would probably automatically block any link
to a list as you suggest that I post.
The most frightening thing of this sort that I have come across, however, is this
little jewel about anti-Semitism at Princeton. The arrogance is just so naked
here, the sense of entitlement. Bear in mind that Princeton was founded as a
school to train Protestant ministers, that according to the CIA Jews make up
1.7% of the US population, and that their percentage in New Hampshire, where
Dartmouth is located is .9%.

Though I agree with the essence of your post, I would like to correct one serious error; that’s your statement about the Yemeni oil being gone. Yemen does not have any oil and it’s now one of the poorest countries in the world.
True that in ancient and medieval times, Yemen was the seat of a great civilization and its prosperity was based on international maritime trade and advanced agriculture. And that’s why when the ancient Greek historian visited Yemen, he was so impressed by its civilization and prosperity and called “Felix Arabia.”
May I add, that coffee was a discovery of a Yemeni shepherd and the first large scale cultivation and manufacturing of coffee took place in Yemen in the 14th century, and was later on introduced to Europe and other parts of the world. The word “Mocha” is a Yemeni city where this industry was centered. The very word of “coffee” is an adaptation from the Arabic word, and the common word “Arabica Beans” is a testimony to this historical fact.
Now, that this whole coffee industry has been destroyed, Yemen has nothing to boast about except that its ruler is a puppet of the USA empire, if this disgrace can be counted as something to boast about; and that’s also precisely why modern Yemen has become a hotbed for so-called “terrorism.”
One does not count Medieval Age’s blessings unless one considers the savagery and troubles of our times!

Mister B.H.Obama will find only the continuation of fraud that existed prior to his insemination, personalized to him prior to his birth in Kenya, transferred to him at birth.
The falsifications of both sides of his parentage, C.I.A. affiliates of whom the honorable Dr. B.H.Obama was unaware. Dr. B.H. Obama was “removed,” to preclude his input. The C.I.A. affiliations and the falsifications of his parentage, his step-father, his own falsifications to include the C.I.A. - falsified birth certificates and the products resulting from his 2008 POTUS placement. Whether
he will be aware of the millions of deaths associated with his 20 yrs of CIA affiliation, to include those resulting from his 2008 POTUS placement, is a question.
Another question, is the NAZI/Zionist entourage almost finished with his (mis)usage? His swagging performance in the S.E.A.L. Hollywood-style debacle, and the assumption of authority by cabinet members would seem to point in that direction - - ?

TDoff: Could the reason be that the standard US official line is that Iraq is “a struggling democracy” whose people (of all shades of opinion) already resent the “American presence” and if there is any hope of us getting out, it is based on them being “able to manage their own affairs.”??? (Note: I am not advocating this attitude as my own attitude which (all too often) disgrees with “official” attitudes.)
Another issue is: To what degree the White House is captive to the Pentagon (Eisenhowers “military industrial complex”)? As long as this issue is not questioned, there may be no hope of defanging the MIC (especially if it means stopping wars), as those companies are not only intricately interlocked with the civilian sector, but are also employers of huge numbers of people who would otherwise be out of work. Such a shift will require a huge moral break-through.
Of course the original set-up of three branches, with the President being the Commander in Chief can be used to weaken the independence of the Presidential office itself while all the time seeming to strengthen it. The Founders could not possibly have anticipated the enormous powers the MIC has aggrandized. Where the rub comes in is that the military is not a democratic organization, and probably doesn’t want to become one. Complications are doubled by the fact that the “industrial” wing has recently become less and less democratic—in fact, seems to scorn democratic values. That leaves Congress—and as long as they are dependent on private resources to get elected, it is doubtful they will become more interested in “the people”.
Report thisAdd to that the Supreme Court obvious recent scorn for “democratic values” and ... well ... lots of love, lots of thought, lots of intelligent nonviolent
