President Barack Obama makes a phone call in the Oval Office on a line that probably is one of the many tapped by the U.S. government.

The president has signed a one-year extension of several provisions in the Patriot Act that would have expired Sunday, renewing the government’s authority to spy on phones and seize records and property of citizens.

The renewal has already been passed by the House and the Senate. —JCL

The Associated Press:

President Barack Obama has signed a one-year extension of several provisions in the nation’s main counterterrorism law, the Patriot Act.

Provisions in the measure would have expired on Sunday without Obama’s signature Saturday.

Three sections of the Patriot Act that stay in force will:
* Authorize court-approved roving wiretaps that permit surveillance on multiple phones.
* Allow court-approved seizure of records and property in anti-terrorism operations.
* Permit surveillance against a so-called lone wolf, a non-U.S. citizen engaged in terrorism who may not be part of a recognized terrorist group.

The point is to make it all legal eventually as it is in any past or present version of a repressive state.

They do it in small steps in order not to frighten us until it is too late. By then most of us are acclimated to it and consider it “normal.”

The Patriot Act is just the latest a long history of the government repressing freedom of speech that stretches from FDR, through Nixon and Bush, all the way up to today with Obama

It has been since 1980 but you have to dig for it though. Piece the scattered parts together. Others have seen it before. Charles Higham‘s books on that critical time in the 1930’s where we almost went fascist in 1934 & would have joined the Axis helped me.

Whereas what Glenn Beck & his backers promote is the idea that the threat are from crypto-communists and that they will become “violent” very soon. The perfect way to deflect thoughts who might otherwise see what I do. Especially since violence is something they are prepared for and would help them in the final stages of our loss of our Republic. They want us in a no win situation. Like playing chess and the king can move no more. Check Mate!

*Note another disgruntled citizen attacked guards at the Pentagon yesterday. Another “lone gunman” not a “terrorist” though he had the same grievances as another non"terrorist” Mr. Stack. How many more will happen? I warned that we could be seeing a Stand Alone Complex in operation. Where many have the same ideas, turn of mind, problems and decide on their own to attack elements of gov’t. That is a dangerous trend if it continues. Be aware.

No not a dictatorship yet but once our economy finishes its collapse we will. (There will be no ambiguity after that.) It will be a theocratic/corporate/military type gov’t. After failing in 1934 they drew plans to do it “right” this time. They hold most of the cards and will have it ready to set in motion when our present gov’t fails, as they intended, then bring us a “new” one in its place. The final act of Disaster Capitalism brought home for nation building right in our midst.

I guess the background of the USA Patriot act needs to be spelled out. The whole so called war on terror was trumped up by the Bushites to leverage the militarization of America; to move us completely into the territory of a police state. The USA PATRIOT act was the legal fig leaf drawn over the body of naked police oppression that has been institutionally moved into our lives.
Interested readers can do background on the feeble attempts to place reigns on the horses of totalitarianism that run over the land
http://www.ala.org/ala/aboutala/offices/oif/ifissues/usapatriotact.cfm

The Obummers of America who praise the puppet that the military placed int the Oval Office can utter putative praises of the ‘liberal’ and ‘powerful’ man but he’s still just a puppet dancing on the ends of the strings put in place by big money interests centered on Wall Street and the Pentagon. He is their man and this renewal of the USA PATRIOT act proves that. None of us are any better off because Barack Obama is in office.

In closing I’d like to give my famous thumbnail sketch of American history.
1. Founding-a new order is created and after a military struggle that almost failed to create a new government, a new constitution is successfully implemented in 1787. Some major compromises are made however to settle the country on a path of growth and those result in a widening conflict that moved us into the next phase-Civil War and Reconstruction.

2. After the Civil War forces of industrialization, some of which were unleashed by the war effort placed new burdens on the aging Constitution and we were thrust into the next major revision of the Republic, the new Deal.

3. By now, 1938, after a struggle to contain industrialization, the country has a thrice revised constitution and we are supposedly a Democracy. However, we are then immediately moved into the WW II effort and in the aftermath of dealing with Fascism, we turn and embrace the many headed beast.
The fourth revision of our constitution is complete by the end of the Bush Administration and we are now a Fascist state with Obama as our new military dictator.

Tell you all something else, as you all well know,
it was the supply ships the the German U boats
targeted. Thats what my Grand dad commanded during
the war. He is legend among Naval Captains of that
time, he served in the Queens Navy in WWI.  He had
three ships blown from under him and never lost a
single memeber of his crew….. The last one was
real memorable,  he was carrying the payroll over
to Europe.  He took it on the life boat with him,
plus all the members of the crew, who wanted the
money.  They asked Grand Dad to share, no one will
ever no…...But Grand Dad decided he was going to
protect the payroll. He drew his 45 cal., he knew
he had the only pistol in the lifeboat.  He held
it on them for eight days without sleeping, they all
waiting for him to fall asleep. They were rescued.
The 1950s movie lifeboat with Bogart is based on that
story…....He became Commador of the world’s largest
steam ship lines at the time. THE AFRICAN LINES.
His son, my mother’s youngest brother who
she raised from an infant, is a retired USAF GENERAL
While our politics somewhat differed, he always the
epitomy of Officer and Gentleman.
My Dad taught Celestial Navigation as a hobby.
He could singlehand his 36ft Sloop, Helene, anywhere
he wanted without one piece of electronic equipment.
He served USN during WWII.  His brother is a Korean
Casuality.

I doesn’t take much of a brain to predict just what

.  THAT COULD BE A SONG….

killed his adopted daughter that night. we showed him

that was right around the time i got called to go to
DC,  a NSA office and take a polygraph test…
I found out two weeks later i failed my test !Can you imagine how disappointed I was ?????
It was shamful,  especially when   I found out what question I missed on my test.. you will never guess…...ARE YOU A TERRORIST ???????
this was in 1985…...Of course i kept the right
response…I laughed, pretty hard too.  I said,
“wait a minute, I just might be going home and
beating my wife, thats terrorism, and getting there,  riding around the Baltimore Beltway, I
might be drunk…Thats bad terrorism, worse than
beating your wife.”  Their mouths were dropping open,
their eyes wide open just starring at me. This is a
true story…..I told them “If you would rephrase
that question to….Are you ivolved in any terrorist
activity against the United States Government, I
might pass the test.”.....They left the room and
were in a summit.  I was left there in my amusement.
They came back in…..“That is an excellent idea,
we are forever going to phrase that question that
way.  Now, will you take that test again ,Please.
Of course, I wasn’t about to say no….from what
I have seen lately, that is not an exceptable answer.
I passed it,  i was so proud.  But, before I took
the test politics did come up !!!!  They asked,  I
was truthful. They gave me that, “You’re allowed that.” , but, know what i mean,  but.

Thank you Night Gaunt

Martha,  I live in tea bag country,  the Dems don’t
even bother running an opposition in this
district.  You are right, and Night Gaunt
points out that many are tied to some extreme
  elements.
But not all of them,  many are real nice folks that
had their retirements screwed somewhat in the bust.

What I am the most dissappointed in Barrack for is
letting some of these folks down. Many of these
voters saw through the Republican line of bull from
the bush years.  They had never voted anything but
republican all their life.  They heard this brilliant
young Harvard graduate and U.S. Senator speak on
issues that concerned them.  He intrigued them and
that soon turned to respect.  That respect soon had
them questioning their long latent racist attitudes.
It was hard for them to throw them off, but they did
and many of these folks voted for Barrack.
They don’t like him now,  it is not racial at all
but it may be a long time before they vote for another black candidate.
That is my dissappointment in Barrack,  since I wasn’t expecting much otherwise, there was no major
dissapointment with his policies, I knew what they
would be two years before he was elected.

There are many more things we could do and we do

They have better control of the media now.
All demonstrations need media coverage to be
effective.

Not to mention, it is mostly the underclass sons

due to lack of jobs in their locations i.e.

If our government had to depend on a no exemption

MarthaA - Idealism can be a beautiful thing, but at
times it can begin to look more like naïveté.
Americans will not be marching on Washington by the
millions because most of them either support the wars
or they are more concerned about other issues.

Here is a perspective for you from outside the US:
Americans obviously support the wars in Iraq,
Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen, etc., etc., because, if
they did not, they would be marching by the millions
on Washington right now.

Even if Americans someday reach the points where they
have seen enough soldiers coming home in boxes (we
know dead Afghans, Iraqis, Pakistanis, Yemenis, etc.,
etc. will not do the job; only American lives matter)
and they actually do “stop the wars” by marching by
the millions on Washington, nothing much will change.
America will still have bases all over the world and
America will still murder and rape to get what you
all want.  American greed knows no bounds.

When you live in an inverted totalitarian state it still looks like Democratic gov’t except on the important human issues it is a hard slog. For corporate military issues no controversy and speedy passage. Such countries aren’t so obvious so “pure fascism” isn’t correct. Doesn’t seem all that bad to me, if what is says in this article is all that he signed for, what is wrong with that?

This really is a Fascist state-although it be a very nice one for some of the select few who are trading in their concerns for democracy to earn a paycheck.
Oh, that’s just about everybody ain’t it?

Other than skin color, what exactly was the difference
supposed to be between Obama and Bush/McCain?

Some say Obama is a liberal/socialist/lefty, but
it is obvious they don’t watch his actions. I’d
say he’s a little right of Bush.

Here’s an interesting article from the NYT on
why Obama is hated by the Tea Party
movement. Things like the Patriot Act and
TARP, trying to force Americans to buy health
insurance, etc.

Tah-tah, United States of America.  You were once a good idea for a nation but now you’re not worth a wooden nickel.

#*@&% Telecom TYRANT! (Could it be because of the BS [Bush Shadow], hog-
tying hombre behind him in the Oval Office photo, symbolically branding his
BushCo-dependent blackmailing)? Ooooo ... I think so!
