Insisting that “the best jobs program out there is a good education” and lamenting the U.S.’ slip down the ranks in the global brain trust, President Barack Obama declared Monday that his budget plan won’t include high costs to the American educational system.  —KA

USA Today:

We can’t cut education,” Obama told students at a Virginia middle school. “We can’t cut the kinds of things that makes our country more competitive” in the global economy.

Obama used the speech to outline his proposed changes to the No Child Left Behind education law. “Fixing our failing schools requires money,” he said.

As usual Obama’s mouth is all that is active to stave off the economic crisis in the public schools -
to call such an institution ‘education’ is hyperbole considering the profound contempt which which the Repugs and Tea Waggers treat the whole enterprise.
As if providing education was a government function just because that’s the way it is in the rest of the civilized world!

Obama is a disgusting cynic. He knows damn well that his own budget slashes Pel Grants, isn’t that cutting education? And his charter school obsession will contribute to a new, neo-feudal society when it comes to getting an education.

I fear you are too close to the real truth, TDoff.

Y’know, maybe the progressive, liberal members of our society are wrong. Maybe the ultra-‘right’ GOPers and Baggers are the proper, evolutionary development that our Plutocratic Capitalist society needs to survive and prosper.

Maybe we don’t need no ‘public’ education. Private education is available to serve the children that matter, the scions of our ‘leaders’. And if we do away with public education, we don’t need no public education teachers.

Since we’ve moved most meaningful productive industries out-of-country, we don’t need no more workers. All we need are workers for the ‘service’ businesses, to ‘service’ our ‘leaders’. And what’s the point of having unions for burger-flippers and toilet-scrubbers and hookers?

And why do we keep paying people who don’t or can’t ‘work’? If we stop health care and unemployment pay and disability pay, those folks will die off and our budget will get closer to being balanced. And our ‘unemployment rate’ will go way down.

And how about those ‘Old Folks’? Sure, maybe they did something useful once, but times-they-are-a’changin. We don’t need no new workers, and they’re too old to make new ones, anyway. So if we don’t provide no cost-of-living ‘adjustments’ for Social Security, and if we ‘privatize’ SS and Medicare, in a year or two all they’ll be able to afford to eat is Made-In-China dog and cat food, and doctors and medicine will be way out-of-their-reach, and how long can they last like that? Bingo! Another drop in our deficit!

Besides the big, obvious benefits to the US, financially, think of the fewer folks in line at our national parks and theaters, and the much less crowded roadways and airplanes.

Think about it, folks, the GOPers and Baggers may be onto something!

If he doesn’t want education funding cut he need to find a pair of soft shoes and join the union protesters.

Obama is either lying or is so disconnected to what
is happening in “the real world” (read: Wisconsin,
Michigan, Illinois, Tennessee, Ohio, etc.) that he
can’t see the forest for the trees.

How can he possibly say education will not be cut
when that is EXACTLY what the governors of these
states (and more in the works) are aiming to do.  If
you haven’t the talent, you don’t have the teaching.
Wage cuts, insurance hikes, retirement depletion,
ineffective unions along with the increasing cost of
living will force good teachers to find employment
elsewhere.  If not, then they will be so overwhelmed
with large class sizes and few resources that
anything close to teaching will not be possible.

Oh, wait!  That will be the TEACHER’S fault!  Funny
how that works.

Mr. Obama.  Put your money where your mouth is and
make public education OFF LIMITS for governor hack-
and-slash policies that undermine the very “brain
trust” you so eloquently support.
