Obama Makes Room for New Sanctions Against Iran

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad speaks at a ceremony at the country’s Natanz nuclear facility in 2009.

On Friday, President Obama prepared to put the squeeze on Iran’s international oil business as an oblique, but not ambiguous, means of pressuring Tehran about its nuclear program by laying the groundwork for more sanctions.  —KA

The New York Times:

President Obama has determined there is enough oil in world markets to allow countries to rely less on imports from Iran, a step that could increase Western actions to deter Tehran’s nuclear ambitions, an administration official said Friday.

[...] Mr. Obama’s decision was to be announced Friday afternoon in a conference call, the official said. He made the decision after consultations with a number of oil exporters that had agreed to increase production. The decision comes even as gas prices have risen in recent months, a rise that his political advisers say could hamper his re-election efforts.

The new sanctions, passed as part of the defense budget and mandated by the Senate in a rare 100-to-0 vote, penalize foreign corporations or other entities that purchase oil from Iran’s central bank, which collects payment for most of the country’s energy exports. The penalties are meant to pressure Iran to curb its nuclear program.

What else can we expect from a president who wants to look tough to get money and votes for re-election from delusional and blood-thirsty voters?  This Nobel Peace Prize winner doesn’t give peace or human rights any thought.

“Why do you think israel places so much emphasis on media and the army of trolls it pays to influence websites.”

I agree with PatrickHenry; they seem to be everywhere.

I once listen to Joan Rivers and Barbara Walter openly declare on national TV at the start of the “Arabic Spring” that they (I paraphrase) could care less about the 400 million people in region being free of the boot(s) of Dictatorships; their only concern was that Israel remain safe. Consider the extreme “racism” reflected in their statements; keeping millions of human beings under the rule of puppet dictators for generations just so those like themselves can “feel” safe.

Maryla Husyt Finkelstein (Norman’s mother), some one I admire a lot once said that Jews are obligated to apply “never again” to all of humanity, not just themselves.

from a small thing and grow to the large thing that it became…..but it simply
confuses Israel’s having help nurture Hamas with having created it.

tic,

The Hamas is a creation of israel meme is hardly new given the victimhood nature of israel and the Jews in general.

http://globalresearch.ca/articles/ZER403A.html

There is power in being the victim all the time, sympathy and an excuse to act irrationally in defense, not to mention the profitablity of being the victim in a court of law or court of public opinion.

Why do you think israel places so much emphasis on media and the army of trolls it pays to influence websites.

““being held hostage by the ...  ..... 2.5% at your local Kosher Deli.””

Just because I point out “racist” actions” by people who happen to be Jewish does not make me racist or anti-Semitic.

At the core of why the West is trying to starve Iran (before we move in for the kill) are two things; oil, oil, oil and the need for a insecure, obsessive religious Apartheid (racist) state to control the region. Obama is nothing more than a “tool” for Big Oil and AIPAC.

Just because I point out the “racist” fanatically support of too many American Jews (not all) for a religious Apartheid state some go straight for the “low hanging fruit” and call me a racist?

Neat trick; if the KKK in the South had only developed this strategy of accusing anyone who questions their obviously racist actions of being a racist maybe they would still be politically Relevant today?

White people who support a White “Aryan” nation are racist; Blacks like Louis Farrakhan who want a Black Muslim nation are racist; and yes, Jews here and in Israel who support a racist Apartheid “Jewish state” are also racist.

Hell, I don’t even support the “Islamic Republic of Iran” (a religious state); but unlike most, I no more wish them harm then I wish upon my fellow human beings who happen to be Jewish.

What was done to Iraq (12 years of sanctions) was not an act of nature. What we are now doing to Iran is being pushed by the same groups (Big Oil and AIPAC. Prove me wrong?

Above is a little bit of the abusive temper tantrum I have endured from heterochromatic just on this subject. As repulsive as I personally find this person I still think he/she should not be kicked off the site. Allowing room for disagreement is what makes this site different from other so-called Liberal sites that spend most of their time preaching to the choir. Sure, odds are heterochromatic is a right wing “troll”, but he/she seems to reflect the mindset of about 49% of the country we Liberals find ourselves stuck in.

One thing heterochromatic; why not focus less on the personal attacks and and present your reasons for why you disagree. Take apart my arguments, not me personally.

Why is the troll, “heterochromatic.” allowed to go off on abusive diatribes
against commenters here?

S/he’s taking advantage of the editorial laissez faire editorial stance with a
certain glee.  Unfortunately, the TD user agreement cones across as irrelevant,
like its “invisible” list.  The claims of “zero tolerance” against abusive
communications are a joke.

If TD were more concerned about what its readers had to offer in their
commentaries—and for that matter, in increasing their input on the forum—
then the reactionary and abusive trolling on its site wouldn’t be such a
discouraging obstacle for many of us.

Hamas was a creation of israel as a counter to fatah, this is well known.  Hamas is also a duly elected party of the Palestinians which is here to stay and which mirrors the Lukid party of israel.

The reason Hamas is so popular is that they refuse to bow to the israelis who kill indiscriminately and disproportionally.

More sanctions ‘to avoid war - for a little while longer’ in order to deter Iran from producing the nuclear weapons that both American and Israeli intelligence confirm that they are not producing simply because they might be ‘thinking’ about nuclear weapons and it is now a crime to think about nuclear weapons if you are Arab/Muslim.

vec,

tic’s hatred of arabs, especially Palestinians is irrational and well documented here.  He parrots the official line that if one is believed guilty of terrorism they deserve to die without trial, a mockery against the principles on which this country was founded which is OK with him.

My point is that there is no good reason for the US to station troops off Iran’s shores, they have not committed any act detrimental to the interestS of the United States besides exchange their oil for another currency other than the U.S. dollar, which is their right.

China and Russia have voiced concern over Iranian nuclear weapons, but defend their right under the NTP to develop nuclear energy and have rejected any use of force against Iran.  They have gone as far to suggest that any attacks upon Iran will be met with force by them.

Now you do not have to be a Palestinian rocket scientist to realize that the US government is acting against the wishes of its own people, its own military and the wishes of most of the people of the world to be on this path, my only question is why?.

“I called the kid’s father a piece of shit….and that ain’t
because the dead piece of shit was a Muslim but because he was a murdering “

Correct me if I am wrong, but as far as I could tell Anwar al-Awlaki killed no one. Just as the racist mobs in the South believed that every Black man they “Lynched” was a potential rapist of White women your kind seems to think every Muslim male murdered by that White House Negro (Obama) who tap dances when ever his “Daddy” (Netanyahu)comes to town is justified.

The sanctions against Iran, like the 12 year sanctions against Iraq that killed countless men women and children is the worst kind of racism; group punishment. It break my heart to see what passes as a Black man and militant racist Jews joining the Neo-Cons in this present act of “mass murder”.

For those like heterochromatic who seek to exploit “low hanging fruit”; I am obviously not referring to “all” Jews or all Blacks. Many of my Black and Jewish friends see what is being done to Muslims as a racist “holy war” with no end.

How dare you think that some one like you who regularly refers to Muslims who are murdered without a trial (including a 16 year old boy) by drone as “pieces of shit” call me a bigot!

You see, unlike you I speak up when the “unpopular” are being slaughtered. It does not take guts or character to defend the political powerful and ridicule the ones we now label “Terrorist” (the new Ni*ger).

You are the worst kind of “opportunistic” racist who seeks cover by trying to pen the label on others before you are exposed.

If Blacks and Jews where being “hunted” and killed (without trial) the way Muslims are being hunted today their would rightfully be cries of outrage from phonies like you and anyone else with half a mind.

When Blacks were “in season” in the South, Liberals spoke up; when Jews were “in season” in NAZI Germany; Liberals spoke up; now that Muslims are “in season” Blacks seem to be “incontinent in a Conner” glad that it’s not them and Jews are beating the drums (with the Neo-Cons) to soak the ground with the blood of the Iranians while the soil is still wet with the blood of a million Iraqis. If you see this as an exaggeration, remember the Web-Bower (Net-In_Yahoo) Benjamin “Bibi” Netanyahu came before the US Congress before the Iraq war and is back to   declare that Iran also is a threat to Israel.

Those spill the blood of our Arab and Muslim fellow human beings so “casually” are the true bigots; stop protecting the powerful you coward and help the ones who are now “in season”.

How many more like Helen Thomas will be destroyed for “speaking truth to power”?

heterochromatic; allow me to say “thank you” for being so transparent. Anyone who states the obvious is a “bigot”?  Killing Muslims by the boat load does not make one a bigot, but speaking critically of some of our Jewish brothers and sisters who support and push policies that lead to the deaths of countless Muslims and the largest open air prison in the world (Gaza) is somehow racist? You are a phony and those who hide behind the racist polices of an Apartheid State are just as phony as you are. So, spare me your “fake outrage” and stop pretending to be a victim.

These “neighbors” you speak of (Saudi Arabia) are nothing more than a bunch of “house Arabs”, mob-bosses we control that do not and have never represented the people of the Middle East.  Save your insults for some one who thinks highly of you.

PatrickHenry being a Gentleman, seems to “imply” what I will just come right out and say: Why the fuck are we allowing 2.5% of the population to   “pistol whip” us and nullify our Democracy?

Many Whites reject the idea that they “personally” owe Blacks anything for America’s 200 year practice of “human” Slavery. Mention reparations, and they will tear your head off! So, how is it that “some” Jews(not all)  who seem far more loyal to Israel and treat America as she were a “second cousin” get away with running rough-shot over our foreign policy in the middle east? Blacks,or Hispanics would never be allowed to get away with this shit! At some point the 2.5% who think we owe them something above and beyond “proportional” representation need to learn what it means to live in a true “Representative” Democracy.

The 1% and the 2.5% both seek to nullify our Democracy.
