Obama Job Approval Sinks to a New LowPosted on Aug 14, 2011
The president’s job-approval rating has never been lower, according to the number crunchers at Gallup. Obama currently clocks in with 39 percent approval, lower by Gallup’s reckoning than every president since Harry Truman at this time in their respective terms—except for Jimmy Carter. That’s not much to brag about. You can find Gallup’s latest numbers on Obama’s approval rating here, and compare Obama with past presidents here. Gallup bases its numbers on a three-day rolling average. This batch is dated Aug. 11-12. Here’s more from Gallup on its methodology: “Gallup tracks daily the percentage of Americans who approve or disapprove of the job Barack Obama is doing as president. Results are based on telephone interviews with approximately 1,500 national adults; Margin of error is ±3 percentage points.” —PZS Advertisement New and Improved CommentsIf you have trouble leaving a comment, review this help page. ‘Obama’s approval rating is 39%’. Is it really that high?

INTELLECTUAL DWARF
Shilling for the Reps, are you?
Prove that what you say is “credible” - otherwise you are just shilling for the opposition party. And, do they need it ... with all their well-mediatized buffoonery.
To wit, they have gutted any and all efforts to bring some Social Justice to the American people - whether it be a Public Option National Health Service or Stimulus Spending to create jobs and their bent on rolling back “entitlements”. What is your “credible” response to those accusations?
And by refusing all Tax Increases, they are doing the job for which the Plutocrats donated campaign funding to put them in office. The Crazies in Congress are the Praetorian Guard for the plutocrat class (Koch & Co.) for whom you are shilling.

Obama is a power pimp for the corporate fascists. Like others have said here, he is
Report thisgoing to succeed in gutting social security and medicare where all previous
Republican efforts have failed. It was obvious what he was from way before he got
elected. Those who voted for him will probably vote for him again. They’re sheep
being led to the slaughter. The only problem is, the biosphere is going to be

@ JDmysticDJ, what a feeble attempt at rationalizing Obama’s republicanism. Let’s
Report thisget serious here, Mr Obama is the best republican to occupy that house in quite
some time. It simply isn’t credible to continue and blame those big bad
republicans - when the supposed leader of the “democratic” party acts and quacks
with more republican swagger than most in that backward party. Ironically, the
“historical” president will be remembered for having gutted those social programs
true progressives deemed essential- AND Obama will have had accomplished what
Nixon, Reagan and the Bushes couldn’t- to reverse FDR’s social policy.
Congratulations!

A COURSE IN CIVICS
Then you must be ignorant of the fact that Sentor Brown’s win in the state of Massachusetts had given the Republicans the super-majority means to filibuster any HealthCare legislation to death.
You are just one more in a long line on this forum who refuses to understand the realities of our three-branch governance that we have in America.
Do you think the Republican’s in the Senate did not threaten him with a filibuster if he presented the Public Option as legislation? (Which is the only equitable solution to America’s Health Care misery.)
Did you never take a course in Civics? Do you not think that the Republicans were stonewalling and indulging in brinkmanship? Have you no idea whatsoever how the political mechanism works in LaLaLand on the Potomac?
It is difficult to understand why some Americans are so indignant at Obama’s “lack of initiative”, when in fact at two elections (Roberts and the mid-terms) we, the sheeple, shot him in both feet. Frankly, I think it because they haven’t a clue as to the way politics works presently in the US.
Show me how I am wrong.

A) the photo associated with this article just makes me mad not only because of it’s obvious racism, but it /ignores/ the fact that McCain wasn’t born in the US (whereas Pres. Obama was). Now no one seriously questioned McCain’s status as an American… there’s ample precedents for children of active duty military serving abroad, etc., etc. etc., but it sure clearly shows that racism and, particularly, the racism that lives within the conservative mind, is alive and well in America.
B) An earlier poster stated that the function of Pres. Obama and the Democratic party is to protect us from the horrors of the far-right. I can’t argue with that. I agree that the Romnatron, the Ronpaulians, the Bachmanians and Paliniskis would herald a level of McCarthy-esqueness I’d not like to see. But the liberal class, the Democrats have failed us. They are not mounting a good fight, it’s more like a half-hearted swing of a very dull sword. No real fight, no swinging for the fences and so, not very good results. I don’t accept that to view the fact that Pres. Obama didn’t mount an argument for a more robust health care plan because he assessed it wasn’t “doable” is an acceptable defense. Not that I’m surprised. I doubted his credentials as a progressive when he ran, so I’m not entirely disappointed when he failed to govern as one.
C) I’m very tired of the Democratic party assuming they will have my vote because there’s “no where else” for a progressive to go. They’re so certain I won’t vote GOP and so certain no 3rd party would dare attempt (after Nader’s being blamed for the Gore defeat—although his defeat had to be handed to him by the Supreme Ct) a run against the sitting Dem President. I’m actively looking for a truly progressive party candidate and if one emerges, I’m going to work for them, and vote for them, unless Pres. Obama can EARN my vote back. EARN my vote Mr. President. Don’t ASSUME you have it just because you talk pretty.

I posted this comment on another thread, but it fits here too.
Any article that mentions Obama, or comments about Obama’s performance will bring out the Vehement “Boo Birds.” The fact that Obama continuously has been” thrown for a loss” says more about the weakness of his team and the unified efforts of the team that opposes him than it does about Obama.
People from the Left such as me know that the best that can be said about Obama and the Democrats is that they are a bulwark against the worst excesses of the Right. Yes Obama and the Democrats leave a great deal to be desired, to say the least, but what is it the “Boo Birds” desire, a further move to the Right? Counter productive irrational exaggerations of Obama’s perfidy can only serve the end of returning the Right to power once again. I believe that Mitt Romney would be every bit as bad a President as was George W. Bush and that the current crop of Republican candidates are even more frightening to behold than Mitt Romney.
Regarding Health Care Legislation, Obama did not offer the legislation we wanted because he knew what was doable, and what he believed was doable just barely passed in the Senate. The Mid-Term elections put Obama and the Democrats deeper in the hole, and those who withdrew their support from Obama during the Mid-Terms should hold themselves responsible for the difficulties we now find ourselves in. Tax cuts for the obscenely rich not being eliminated Is the fault of those who withdrew their support for Obama and the Democrats. Entitlement Programs being on the table is the fault of those who withdrew their support of Obama and the Democrats. In order to stop the further shift to the Right in our politics we should be working to re-elect Obama and to give him sizable majorities in the Congress, not trying to destroy our only protection against right-wing lunacy.
The sad fact is that as bad as Obama’s Foreign Policy and National Security objectives have been they would only become more insane under the guidance of Republicans.
Personally, and against the conventional wisdom, I don’t believe that a more progressive challenger to Obama in the Democratic primaries, would serve the interests of the Right, I believe such a challenge would bring the issues to light, further point out the insanity of right-wing policies, and should Obama prevail, he would prevail by being pulled back to the Left.
Be that as it may, the most important thing now, and for our future, and the future of the world is that the Republicans not achieve power once again.
