On a regular basis, Truthdig brings you the news items and odds and ends that have found their way to Larry Gross, director of the USC Annenberg School for Communication. A specialist in media and culture, art and communication, visual communication and media portrayals of minorities, Gross helped found the field of gay and lesbian studies.

Dr. Zing, and everyone else:

Here’s a site that is a bit on the mushy side, but also very inspiring because it shows plainly some things that need our care and appreciatioin:

Obama dodging Netanyahu’s attempts to suck the U.S. into a war against Iran is only the wishful thinking or the false interpretation of one writer.

In the case of the evil alliance between the U.S. political-military-industrial complex’s relationship with terrorist, Zionist Israel, that relationship transcends individual politicians or presidents and prime ministers. It’s a relationship of slavery, and the worst part of it is that one does not know who is the slave-master and who is the slave.

Unless and until this slavery institution is abolished, both the U.S. and Israel will remain the most dangerous threat to world’ peace and the most evil alliance in world’s history.

Hi gerard,

Regarding your question: “What, then, is driving this country insane?”

We are basically a bunch of nineteeth century thinkers walking around
with a nuclear warhead slung over our shoulder, antibiotics in our back
pocket, a religion in our wallet, and a huge superstitious monkey on
our back.

We are not so much insane as confused about the nature of the reality
we face.

Take heart, however. We got this far as a species not because we are
bad but because we are good.

The last few thousand years have been pretty rough and the next few
thousand might even be worse, but just imagine what a wonderful species
human beings might turn out to be after we traverse the circles of
hell, walk on water, and come out the other side knowing the difference
between myth and reality.

All the best.

D.R. Zing

If he doesn’t want to ruin the U.S. and half the Middle East, Obama (backed immediately by millions of us ordinary citizens) is going to have to buck up and do more than “appear” to say NO, not only for moral and humane reasons but because getting U.S. into yet another war will not only ruin the U.S.and cause further havoc throughout the M.E., but will give China and India a huge economic boost and make Russia look downright humane.
Why doesn’t our government think in terms of the world and the future of the human race, instead of just the narrow interests of oil and military domination? I would guess (from experience with Jews in America) that far less than half of American Jews would approve of Israel (or the US for that matter) bombing Iran.
As for the cranky support of the religious Right Wing, with its “Judgment Day” narrative, a huge majority of Americans would say that that antique religious myth should be kept entirely out of U.S. foreign policy.
What, then, is driving this country insane?

Cut off any aid to Israel that we are not bound by treaty to give.

“Obama dodges Netanyahu’s attempts to suck the U.S. into a war against Iran..” Cute little example of a liberal attempt to interpret an article through an Obamabot filter but sorry…according to Porter it’s still a pretty dangerous situation as Obama wants to distance himself from an Israeli attack on Iran but isn’t saying he would move to stop one, which means that Israel could still attack and still pull your god into a disastrous conflict.
