North Carolina Considers Gay Marriage AmendmentPosted on Sep 12, 2011
North Carolina has been the only state in the Southeast without a constitutional ban on same-sex marriage, but that may change. A state House committee approved a measure that, if passed by a supermajority of legislators, would put the amendment to a public vote in May. The vote was moved from November to May over criticism that Republicans might have ulterior motives—just as George W. Bush’s political allies are said to have engineered similar votes in 2004 to help turn out a more conservative electorate. This way legislators can be sure their motives are purely bigoted and not political. Wouldn’t that be unsavory. —PZS

“some people have more equal rights” sums it up nicely

Sadly, I suspect this assault on gay rights will be supported by both white and black churches. Many African Americans still refuse to acknowledge any similarities between Jim Crow laws of the past and anti-gay laws of today.

What you wrote is entirely correct. Unfortunately, those who push for this kind of legislation and constitutional changes have a rather more Orwellian view. Not the one of Big Brother fame but Animal Farm… (to paraphrase) All people have equal rights. But some people have more equal rights than others…
So their actions make perfect sense, at least in their own minds. The thought would never cross their minds that their rights are not more important than everybody else’s

A constitution for any free democracy is not intended
Report thisto limit rights. Anyone supporting an amendment that
would limit rights instead of expand rights is someone
that has a lot to learn about freedom, civil rights,
human rights and liberty.
