Who made your week by speaking truth to power, blowing the whistle or standing up to injustice?

Truthdigger of the Week is a feature in which we recognize a person or group that made a difference.

See past winners here. Nominate this week’s winner here.

Last week, we recognized Occupy Wall Street protester Jesse LaGreca, who responded to the provocative questions of a Fox News reporter with such clarity and fortitude in support of the movement that his message gained viral attention. Honorable mentions included The Raging Grannies, a group of activist women who proved that the Occupy Wall Street movement speaks for nearly all people in the United States, no matter their age, religion, race, sexual orientation or political party, and political commentator Keith Olbermann, who read aloud a formal statement released by Occupy Wall Street protesters listing their collective grievances and demands.

I am catching up on my Chomsky video lectures tonight, so I thought… why not nominate him.

Among other things I see OWS and the thingy in D.C. as consciousness-raising efforts.

Chomsky has said many times that he would rather spend his time more or less exclusively puruing the study of linguistics, yet in order to be able to look himself in the mirror he has engaged himself to political analysis and dissent.

He has published, I dunno, a hundred or so books, not to mention his pamphlets, and made himself available not just for lectures, but to people who write to him or approach him with sincerity all over the world.

In short he is not just brilliant, but a really nice guy as well.

Many folks criticize OWS for not having specific demands. Chomsky also has a broad based criticism of our society which frustrates many.

Here are some links to recent lectures…

A little comment for RT on OWS…

A “no-notes” talk about Adam Smith’s “vile maxim”...

Chomsky discusses Libertarian Socialism with punk rockers in Oslo, Norway (I haven’t watched this one yet, it is next on the list).

“The Responsibility Of Intellectuals Redux”
Chomsky gives an updated talk on his classic essay…

and there are so many more.

Chris Hedges probably deserves more than an honorable mention for all his dire warnings and calls for “bodies in the streets”, but since he is a major contributor here… give it to Ketchup instead, who is brave and bold and unpaid.
