Nominate Our Next Truthdigger of the WeekPosted on Sep 27, 2011
Who made your week by speaking truth to power, blowing the whistle or standing up to injustice? Truthdigger of the Week is a feature in which we recognize a person or group that made a difference. See past winners here. Nominate this week’s winner here. Last week, we recognized Amy Goodman, host and executive producer of “Democracy Now!”, the only news outlet to broadcast live continuously from the prison grounds on the night of the execution of Troy Davis. Her broadcast made more information available to the world in real time than any other news source that night, and her poise and clear-headedness throughout the ordeal brought needed comfort to a distraught audience. Honorable mentions last week included Egyptian blogger Mohamed Abdelfattah and Massachusetts Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren.

The Wall Street protestors’ actions are most powerful this week as ALTERNATIVE truth to the usual demonizing and manipulation in support of Wall Street. May their ranks continue to swell and eventually bud forth a THIRD party candidate willing to work for the 99 percent! Note also October 6, and the next round of demonstrations.

I say nominate the collective whole of occupywallst, they’ve been, seemingly, the most forthright ideal of speaking truth to power.

How about Lawrence O’Donnell, who highlighted at length on his show The
Report thisLast Word about the unjustified police brutality toward peaceful protesters at
the Occupy Wall St. demonstration? Finally, there’s somebody in the more
‘mainstream’ media with the ‘cojones’ to shed light on what’s happening to
larger masses seem relatively unaware (or complacent?) with what’s
happening. Here’s the youtube link:

Heard an interview a few days ago with Gwen Olsen, “Confessions of An Rx Drug Pusher”, (published 2009). Just browser-searched ‘pharmaceutical whistle blowers’ and it turns out there are quite a few, perhaps someone even more recent. I’ve recently lost a dear friend whose life had been ‘overtaken’ by years of pharmaceutical SSRI meds. It’s a big topic on my mind right now. Gwen’s website: http://www.gwenolsen(dot)com. Thanks!!
