New York’s Paladino Hates on GaysPosted on Oct 10, 2010
Carl Paladino has made a joke of the New York governor’s race, but on Sunday the tea party candidate showed he could be hateful as well. Speaking to a group of Orthodox Jews just days after it was reported that two teenagers and an adult were tortured nearby in the Bronx for being gay, Paladino said children should not be “brainwashed” into thinking homosexuality is “equally valid.” Apparently wanting to deflect any charges that he was endorsing violence, he added: “Don’t misquote me as wanting to hurt homosexual people in any way. That would be a dastardly lie.” I disagree. You cannot campaign against a group of Americans and then divorce yourself from the repercussions. Politicians and religious leaders who legitimize bigotry and foster a culture so intolerant that teenagers would rather kill themselves than come out bear responsibility for the deaths, the beatings and all the rest. To paraphrase Bill Maher, who ranted on this subject Friday, if you’re going to hate gays, don’t hide behind excuses like you’re defending marriage (from what?). It’s time for bigots like Carl Paladino and those in the audience who applauded him to come all the way out of the closet. —Peter Z. Scheer

You know, it may sound crazy, but I can’t help wondering if Paladino’s entire candidacy is some sort of stealth joke. Think about it. This guy wants to be governor of a state in which the majority of voters are in NYC. And NYC has the second largest gay population after SF. How does Paladino think he is going to carry NYC when he makes self-sabotaging comments like this?

Report thisThe dictionary definition of aberration is not only statistical - anymore than the word deviation is only statistical - which obfuscates the real issue-
Your logic is baffling-
I am not equating homosexuality with having three arms - homophobes like Paladino see it as that kind of aberration.
You seem to be trying to neutralize his objection to homosexuality - as simply a statistical one - which again is not all that aberration implies - anymore than the word abnormal.

RayLan:
Are you equating homosexuality with having three arms? Is being 6’10” a deviation from moral rectitude? What the fuck are you talking about? Homosexuality IS a deviation- from the norm. That is NOT a moral judgement, it’s a statistical one. If homosexuality was the norm, then heterosexuals would be the minority.
My point is, you must not confuse normal with natural. It’s my ONLY point. I don’t care about homosexuality, one way or another. I don’t care about gay marriage, one way or the other. What I care about is the politicization of homosexuality.
Show me one quote in any of my posts which supports your claim that I am a bigot.

Report this“Is being 6’10” tall an aberration? Is having red hair an aberration?”
No it is not an aberration in the sense that I am using which is quite consistent with the ‘normal’ dictionary usage.
Another usage to which it is consistent as a deviation from moral rectitude. Being born with three arms is both an aberration and a deviation from the norm, but it is not in the same category as being 6’ 10. The latter is hardly the sense that homophobes use it. The sense they use it as a sexual ‘deviation’. (hence aberration).
Good luck parsing your way out of the bigotry.

You go Carl. And while you’re telling it like it is, don’t forget to mention that “disgusting” hetero activity at Mardi Gras—where views of women’s breasts can be had for the price of a string of cheap plastic beads. Oh, and don’t forget to castigate all those drunken heteros at spring break on the Florida beaches, Padre Island or Palm Springs. I’ve been there, done that (well most of that) which includes public drunkenness, a whole lot of vomiting, and public sex. You go Carl, but don’t forget Girls Gone Wild, now enjoying a resurgence of record-breaking sales. Yeah, Carl. You go talk about Gay Pride parades, but don’t go too far because we don’t want to have to talk about hetero activity that would make most Gay Pride parades seem tame in comparison. But it’s hetero, so who’s going to complain, right Carl?

Obama and Pelosi are not socialists. If they were they would want to do something about this:

Notice how well all the socialist countries are doing. Sweden, Norway, Denmark… France

Right on. Witness what’s happening to Newt Gingrich for daring to opine that Obama and Pelosi are socialists, which they are.

If all politicians said exactly what they believe, chaos would ensue and there would
probably riots and a revolution…maybe that’s a good thing?
I don’t endorse what Mr. Paladino said. I’m only saying, he’s being honest…which
Report thisis a suicidal thing for a politician to do.

Allow me to quibble with your use of “aberration”.
“...not the medical moral nonsense about homosexuality being an aberration.”
Is being 6’10” tall an aberration? Is having red hair an aberration?
I’m afraid you’re using aberration to describe a departure from “natural”, in which case it is medical and moral nonsense. Most would use it as describing a departure from “normal”. 6’10” is not a normal height. Red hair is not a normal color. Homosexuality is not a normal sexual orientation. All three though are “natural”.

What I can’t believe is that Paladino is only 22 points behind Cuomo in the polls and that’s after threatening to kill a reporter for asking questions about his past. The only good thing is that the public can see in this election cycle like never before which party attracts the nut cases, racists, misogynists, and homophobes. They always know where their home is.

Report thisPaladino doesn’t say homosexuality is unfortunate because of the hatred - he says it is not equally valid - (whatever that means).
The state of gays in the US - that it’s unfortunate, is the fault of the hateful homophobic bigots. That is the problem to be solved - not the medical moral nonsense about homosexuality being an aberration.

Unfortunately religion is super-glue to seal in stupidity in the name of orthodoxy. Actually the concept of orientation is not biblical - it is a nineteenth century invention. The infamous Romans I by Paul, is squeezed for as much venom it can produce, as though that were the defining mission of Jesus - to condemn faggots. That’s what the primitive white trash self-anointed pseudo-Christians want to believe.
They need to read Romans II
“You may think you can condemn such people, but you are just as bad, and you have no excuse! When you say they are wicked and should be punished, you are condemning yourself, for you who judge others do these very same things.”

We must, I think, pity these christians. Thing with christians who believe orientation is a choice is they all must have had to sit on the edges of their beds when they were 12, 13 years old and wonder if they were going to choose gay or straight. The rest of us KNEW, physiologically, which we preferred. Over 50 years later, I remember “Sally Jones” leaning over my desk in 5th grade, showing a young cleavage. My physiological reaction was immediate and powerful (would that this old guy could conjure up such a thing now). Must be tough to be a christian agonizing in doubt about his orientation, worrying about what he’s gonna choose.

Wow I’m so glad that I am gay and NOT an American. There are way to many right wing crazies in America. You are turning into a theocratic lunatic state and the election of these Tea Party losers is only going to make things worse. The liberals in America need to be better organized. And they need to stop trying to work with the repubs cause they have no interest in working with the Democrats. That was one of Obama’s biggest mistakes. Also the Democrats don’t seem to be as united as the Repuclicans.

With the media circus, Franklin’s statement “Honesty is the best policy” is a
suicidal policy for politicians now.
Saying the blatantly obvious is now taboo.
If gays are honest, they will admit, that even if they achieved complete social
equality and freedom, they would not wish their condition on others.
That is not about hatred. I don’t hate gays. And I don’t endorse Mr. Paladino
Report thiseither. I just observe that being honest is now suicidal for politicians, and this, we
all suffer for it.
