New York Going GreenPosted on Apr 22, 2007Just in time for Earth Day, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg is expected to announce on Sunday 127 environmental proposals, including a plan to add a million trees to the city over the next 10 years. With an EPA you have to sue in order to see enforcement, it’s no wonder local leaders of all political stripes have increasingly taken on environmental regulation themselves.

It’s nice to see politicians taking serious action against global warming. It’s also nice to see people planting trees rather than cutting them down.

Bloomberg wants to charge $8 per day for people to drive into Midtown Manhattan as a way to curb air pollution and CO2 emissions.
If all the money collected goes directly into an environmental fund of some sort, or towards more/better mass transit, etc, I support it.
But if it goes into the City Treasury to be used for anything BUT environmental issues, then it’s a terrible idea and should not pass.
Something tells me it’s just going to be another revenue generating tax for the City.
Prove me wrong Mr Bloomberg!
