New Comment SystemPosted on Apr 5, 2007We have some exciting news for our readers: A new community comment system is active. You’ll now have to register in order to comment on articles, but you’ll be able to post right away. If you see something inappropriate, be sure to report it. We hope these changes will help provide a thoughtful marketplace of ideas that all in the Truthdig community can be proud of. What are you waiting for? Tell us what you think! I take my earlier comment about “not minding” the new commenting system.
I love it!
I had no problems registering (ummm, maybe because I rarely, if ever, post a comment anonymously anywhere), and I’m seeing comments faster now (both mine and others I like to follow).
Good idea Truthdig ...

i think it was essential for truthdig to tighten up the commenting format and i also think it is essential that the comments on the site be in tune with the vision of the site. simply because some of us favor an open, democratic, conscious and critical environment doesn’t mean that he have to look at ugly or irrelevant comments.
eye time is money in the virtual world. if i have to look at awful posts, i’ll be less likely to stop by. hopefully enough of us will keep on eye on the site to keep any would-be, bill o’reilly-supported web-bombers from messing up the place.

Truthdig
I have tried to respond to the individual
whom commented on my post, but I keep getting
an error message. Again, if one is to be cri-
of another’s ideas, than do not pull your punk
like games and be a man.
While I am am not the the most adroit in na-
vigating the internet, don’t ridicule anno-
ther for attemps to respond to caluny and sub-
supposition. If an individual makes a Mistake.
She or He is not an idiot.
The Mistake must not be of any consequense
when determining the body of the message.
When one uses such evasive retorical criti-
zism, they are using the same manipulative,
specious justifications for dismissal of any-
one who dares to question the status quo or
state.
If there is a problem, e-mail me truthdig.
Talk to an individual like a human being,
who can think for themselves.
Thank You

I don’t understand why I cannot register
on comments section. Following instructions
to the letter appears to have little meaning.
If there is a problem with my password bush
and cheney murders, tough.
There are no weapons of mass destruction to
be found in Iraq. Therefore, these scum of
the human race are bullies and murderers.
I am tired of respecting those who don’t re-
spect the one or the many. The evidence is in
front of anyones eyes. Don’t hide behind BS
rules and laws, only used to control people.
The history of humankind is the struggle Li-
berty and Power, Between those humans who
want to be left alone to live their lives in
peace and those who wish to control other
human beings
Historians who protray the past as primarily
consensus rather than conflict or as the in-
evitable triumph of impersonal, progressive
social forces are lying apoligists for try-
ranny.
Therefore, Anyone who tells I better respect
anyone who does not respect me or at least
act in a civil manner toward me, are inbree-
ders.
There is no law, even if there is, fuck the
law, about wishing death on bullies who are
controling me through violence or sneaky
threats of same. Life isn’t Fair, so one has
make it fair for themselves.
Unless the law is in plain english, anyone
Report thiscan kick your ass or kill it on suprious jus-

plain english, then you can defend yourself
in any fasion necessary for survival.
When I or my family and friends are assualted
in any way, We are God in control of own bo-
dies. If I tell you no, and you don’t lis-
ten, than if necessary, your death will be
your act of contrition.
You probably won’t respond this in any way
other than sending this to those base, de-
spicable homeland security miscreants.
If it is wrong for me, than it’s wrong for
everybody, regardless of their power or sta-
tion in life.

I have been to many sites where personal attacks by mostly right leaning people were carried out against anyone that was against the Iraqi war, the current administration, the damage that has been done to our rights as Americans, and a raft of other subjects.
I enjoy visiting Truth Dig because the level of discussion has remained above name calling and personal attacks and I have learned a lot by reading the articles and opinions expressed by other readers.
I hope the new system works.

With a moderator, I can be sure somebody is paying attention to me.

It must have been a drag for a moderator to wade through all the comments. I know I’m overwhelmed by the number of responses to the few threads I reply to. And that’s just a fraction of the whole. I sometimes wonder—who pays the moderators? This is a nice website, and I learn a lot from it, but it’s got to be a full-time job for at least two or three people running it, to say nothing of the people who contribute the articles. Where is the money coming from?

I don’t mind it. Having to moderate comments is a time consuming hassle and takes a lot more time than managing a membership role.
Open comments are good, but I point out to TAO Walker to think about how many spam, splog, and those types of comments weren’t seen? because they were moderated out to give us decent and fast reading of comments and not garbage.
I’ve seen the moderators approve some pretty extreme comments, but never once saw something inappropriate or not on issue.
If I have to register to put in my two cents, I’ll go for it because I’ve gotten to the point that if its not on Truthdig, I don’t know the whole story yet, agree or disagree.
And often the comments get more interesting and educational than the articles themselves. The ones who care about the truth and diverse opinions will continue to hang out, I’m sure.

Truthdig censored so many of my previous posts, which contained no profanity, that I wonder if this new system is contrived to allow them more easy censureship by letting them simply banning users whose posts argue too effectively against the truthdig bias in the articles.

It’ll be interesting to see what effects this new regimen has on the general tone and content of the comments made here in “the marketplace of ideas.” Let’s hope it doesn’t change what has been a sometimes rowdy but always worth-visiting bazaar into just one more slick and sterile “superstore” featuring cheap imitation plastic substitutes for the organic intercourse so essential to our survival as human beings.
That’s this old Indian’s “best wishes,” anyway.
HokaHey!
