A panel of forensic scientists will examine the remains of former Chilean President Salvador Allende, who either killed himself or was slain as forces loyal to all-around bad guy Augusto Pinochet stormed the presidential palace in 1973.

Pinochet went on to enjoy 17 years of tyrannical rule, which might explain why Allende’s death never got a proper investigation.  —PZS

BBC:

The official version is that Allende shot himself in the presidential palace as General Augusto Pinochet’s forces closed in on him during the 1973 coup.

But as his death was never formally investigated, some believe the military killed him and covered up the crime.

[...] With the Allende family’s blessing, a judge set up a panel of Chilean and foreign forensic experts that will try to clarify the circumstances surrounding the late president’s death.

It’s not hard to believe.  It’s hard to believe they were allowed to get away with it.

Pinochet was a born again fascist, a real fascist according to Dr. Britts 14 points of Fascism…  Allegedly the CIA seems to have its fingers all over creating great leaders for everyone else’s discontent.  Wonder if Baochman or Palin are part of the plan?

As far as I understood the CIA was at the head of the overthrow of Allende, just as we were at the head of the over throw of an elected government in Guatamala. Our government keeps doing things that may or may not make sense in the short term, but in the long term they always turn out bad for their victims and worse for the long term.

Our Army has made itself the instrument of illegal and bullying actions against other countries. We have supported and strengthened dictators all over the world and then brought them down when they showed any sign of having interests other than the enrichment of American and Multi-National Corporations. We watch advertisements that say we should worship our soldiers, but we should ask a very important question, “Whose interests do they actually serve?”

Another reason the ICC needs to have jurisdiction over American government actions, with ensured accountablity.

Obviously, the smart thing to do was to bury him at
sea, with the last rites and no possibility of
exhumation.

Some more of the Chicago School’s and Friedman’s
legacy.
More stuff from our barbaric past. But wait; what’s
changed?

All those years ago it was obvious that you couldn’t commit suicide by shooting yourself with a bunch of machine guns held 10 feet away.

Now the same thugs who tell Texas kids there was no Thomas Jefferson are going to re-write the history of Chile.  What’s next? Pinochet as the friend of children and the poor?

The only question is, will the US fingerprints still be visible after thirty-eight years?
