Two other newspapers owned by Rupert Murdoch’s media empire have been accused of using illegal practices to obtain deeply personal information.

The Sunday Times and The Sun allegedly targeted former Prime Minister Gordon Brown and, according to the BBC, The Sun may have improperly accessed private medical records before revealing to the world that Brown’s son suffers from cystic fibrosis.

Another Murdoch property, the News of the World, was shut down last week amid disclosure of details of that paper’s use of cellphone hacking to invade the voice mail of a murdered schoolgirl.

Murdoch’s papers, which are known to be more of a hobby than a source of revenue for the media tycoon, have been accused of other violations, too. Among the more serious charges, the BBC says, is bribery of police officers.

The practices of these papers, if the various allegations are true, are unsavory, but so is the content, at least where the tabloids are concerned. Is it insensitive to ask what took authorities and the recently outraged public so long to figure out that garbage out means garbage in?  —PZS

BBC:

Gordon Brown is said to be “shocked” after it was alleged the Sunday Times targeted his personal information when he was Chancellor.

Documents and a phone recording suggest “blagging” was used to obtain private financial and property details.

The Browns also fear medical records relating to their son Fraser, whom the Sun revealed in 2006 had cystic fibrosis, may have been obtained.

Sarcasm is the refuge of those who have no cogent argument with which to rebut.

You mean like when you wrote that you wish I had been killed?

Take a deep breath Daffyette. That’s it. Breathe easy and relax. I’m your friend, not your enemy. That’s it ... keep breathing slowly and deeply.

I understand. I feel your pain. You’re embarrassed, you’re ashamed. You have good reason to be. Were I in your position I’d feel equally embarrassed and ashamed. Okay, the whole world realizes that Obama is a complete and utter failure. A mocha arsehat! He’s the most inept and clueless bozo ever elected by people like you. I know it’s embarrassing. But you’re not the only one. Take solace in that.

You voted for change and here Hillary is tied with Duyba and as soon as we invade Syria she and Obama will win the Warmonger award. So what? Get over it.

You feel like a loser because you thought—for 8 excruciating years—that there could be no one dumber than those who voted for Bush and here you are having voted for an even bigger loser than Bushy. I feel you pain ... but I’m not responsible ... I don’t vote for any of them because not being naive like you ... I know that voting for any politician is akin to praying to a statue and thinking it hears you.

Relax. British rags are infamous for amoral journalism, scandal, etc.

Are you the one with the cheating significant other or is that someone else? I can’t remember. Age ... the memeory isn’t what it used to be. If you are I want you to know that it isn’t my fault. Take it out on someone else please.  smile

Right, his son ...

What a great advance in journalistic morality that will prove to be. He was running most of the show anyway ...

Is that the only arrow left in your quiver?

I’d love to see Murdoch stripped of his citizenship.  He is to news was Walmart is to retailing: Predatory. Destructive. Anti-American.

Bwaaaaa! That’s funny. I’ve seen several of your comments on economics ... would you be so kind as to tell me where you studied economics so that I might better insure that no relation of mind study there?

Thanks…

We know that Ol’ Ruppert is looking to see who he needs to throw under the bus.
So far they have not only interfered in an active missing persons/possible murder case, they DELETED phone messages that might have helped police.
They’ve paid and corrupted politicians.
They’ve corrupted the Royal Protective Service to get hold of a confidential phone book of Royals’ phone numbers.
They’ve tried to reshape British politics by trying to smear Brown.

I hope the British arrest him, charge him, try him, and convict him, and his rotten sons.

I’d love to see Murdoch stripped of his citizenship.  He is to news was Walmart is to retailing: Predatory. Destructive. Anti-American.

had to laugh as his “biographer” was taking questions on his behalf.

Has this guy Rupert made significant contributions to humanity, knowledge, or the quest for truth that I didnt know about?  so much so that he has his own biographer?

shows the importance modern day society heaps upon rich people, somehow equating them with geniuses.

He will never be prosecuted. He has to much money and even more friends. He will play the role of the senile old man and someone else in his empire will take the fall. He has as much of a chance of being prosecuted as Bush Cheney and the rest of the war criminals that started the Iraq war all with the drumbeat of Murdoch and Fake news. He is just another added to the list of bankers and Bush Administration folks who did the crime without doing the time. God Bless America.

Murdoch’s British papers are no mere hobby. They are his source of political power there, since TV news broadcasting has strict impartiality rules. It’s the fear that giving him 100% control of Britiain’s largest pay-TV operation would destroy that impartiality sooner or later that has fuelled the exposure of the rottenness and criminality of his empire.
