Malaysia Canes WomenPosted on Feb 17, 2010
Although the oppression of women in some foreign countries is routine, we ought not to forget cases like the recent ones in Malaysia in which three women were caned for having extramarital intercourse and another awaits a caning decision for, *gasp*, drinking beer. Malaysia’s legal system is particularized, which means that the nation’s Islamic law—which was responsible for the caning of the women—does not apply to the large Chinese and Indian minorities. —JCL

This is what the supporters here of Hamas and Hezbollah are actually advocating for the future of the Palestinian people, and, if they get their way, for the 5 million people in Israel: Caning for being raped. Naturally, the rapist “swears” on the Qu’ran that the woman not only acquiesced but wanted it, making it adultery under Sharia. And, since the judges are ALL men, they accept the rapist’s oath. After all, it WAS on the Holy Book, and wouldn’t God strike a liar down right then and there? But…why not have the woman swear on the same Book—and if SHE is not stricken down then maybe SHE is telling the truth…but it never works that way, does it?

It should be obvious that Malaysia’s repressive behavior is a direct response to the American imperialism of the Bush-Cheney years.
If the US, and Israel, would just disappear from the face of the earth, Islam would be able to be the religion of peace it claims to want to be.
The caning would stop, and kumbaya would be sung a round.

AHHHH !!! The practice of religions throughout the world. The comfort of it all. The truth in knowing that one’s maker(s) wanted this life for those who don’t heed their words, or live life with authorized hatred for those who don’t, and can cast about public floggings to scare people into walking the straight and narrow. Kind of like parenting or terrorists who have their sights set on martyrdom. Yet atheism is thought to be wrong. I do not know of an atheist who committed wrongful acts in the name of God. It’s no wonder people are confused and f’d up. Certainly not the religion that was preached to me as I grew. I hear the religious right preach their politics and not staying close to the God this country was built on, that we should trust and love our creator and he will take care of us. Then be caught breaking their God’s laws(commandments) or whatever. They still go out and destroy the very world the creator created by not giving possibility to environmental proof. Damn the religion and pay attention to life by treating fellow human beings as we should. Like we all belong and share in the longevity of this world and it’s people. I’ll let those who believe say a prayer for us.

Re: zeroinfinity
Only those who embrace “the religion of peace” need be caned. Economic realities, not religious tolerance, prohibit extending this barbarity to Indian and Chinese residents.

My question is what happens to men guilty of the same offence. While I do not condone canning at all, and especially not in these matters, equal punishment should be the first consideration. And bear in mind the woman who was canned for being raped. Was that an extramaritial affair?

My only criticism of this is that the law evidently does not apply to everyone in Malaysia. If the punishment for drinking beer or cheating on one’s spouse in Malaysia is caning, that’s fine; however, this punishment should be applied to every citizen of Malaysia for breaking the law. Evidently, this is not so there.
