Lights On at Fukushima Plant

The Fukushima plant as seen four days after the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.

Finally, a little good news out of Japan’s Fukushima Daiichi nuclear station—but just a little. On Tuesday, workers struggling to contain radiation leaks and prevent further damage to the plant got a bit of a boost with the restoration of lighting in the control room.  —KA

It is hoped the development will speed up work to restore cooling systems vital for stabilising the reactor.

Meanwhile, the UN’s nuclear watchdog says radiation is still leaking from the quake-hit plant, but scientists are unsure exactly where it is coming from.

Japan estimates more than 21,000 people died in the 11 March quake and tsunami.

For several insightful and detailed reports on the situation in Japan now, Google Japan Times, the English language newspaper. Especially in the March 20 edition, a story “Disaster Analysis You May Not Hear Elsewhere.”

Lights are on but nuclear politicos are not home.

Hopefully, the worst is behind them.  Tepco needs to recognize the other person is them if they had been thinking that way and not “greed” they may have weathered tsunami and minimized extreme losses to equipment and perhaps Eco-system.

Minus lights going out.

Wouldn’t it have been better to leave the lights off? So the workers would not be able the see the flesh flaying from the bones of their co-workers, and watch their own teeth and hair fall to the floor?
