The last decade has been a politically eventful one for Connecticut’s Sen. Joe Lieberman, who kicked off the millennium with a vice-presidential near miss and went on to raise Democratic hackles more recently with his changing loyalties and positions, but his long run is about to end. According to The New York Times, Lieberman is gearing up to announce that he won’t seek re-election when his current term is up in 2012. —KA

The New York Times:

Mr. Lieberman, whose term is up in 2012, chose to retire rather than risk being defeated, said the person, who spoke to the senator on Tuesday.

“I don’t think he wanted to go out feet first,” the person said.

fellow Jews suffered under gov´t spies and secrets,
promoting secrets is promoting the Schwartze Korp.

Nobody is going to miss that double crossing
backstabbing war mongering weasel. The real Sore
Loserman was when he lost to to Ned Lamont and weaseled
his way back into another term with corporate money. He
did a lot of the Republicans dirty work including
speaking at their convention of behalf of John Mcain
and Sara Palin which probably cost them thousands of
Connecticuts votes anyway. Plus who will forget his
support for Georges Bushes wars. I think that he should
for Prime Minister of Israel since they seemed to
benefit the most from the shit he did!

Kinda scary to think that he came so close to being #2.  Come to think of it, he’s still #2.

The Liebmeister may go, but Connecticut’s shame for having elected him in the
first place lives on.

This is wonderful news, but what’s he hanging up?  His turncoat?  Amazing how so many Congress critters are giving up over the last few years.  Is the housing market in Costa Rica that much better?  Is Wikileaks going to expose their nest eggs?

This is going to be sickening. I can see Matt Lauer now congratulating him on a good run in the senate. No mention of his support and active role in pushing he US into a proxy war for Israel, that being the invasion and occupation of Iraq.

It shouldn’t shock me but here is a man who won’t even ride in a car on the sabbath for fear of breaking God’s laws, but turns around and proposses unspeakable torture and killing.

I’ll put five bucks on his being at Goldman-Sachs by 2014, if not sooner.
Can we get a pool going here?

Way to go, Joe.
You once got to where you were regarded as “the
conscience of the Senate” and were much admired until
you inexplicably decided conservatives needed you to
perform certain sexual acts for them

Let me see. Won’t be surprised to see him show up as head of
USB in Switzerland. If not there definitely a member of the
american izraeli public affairs committee. If not there, at
goldman sucks. If not there, the federal reserve.

Whatever or wherever, he won’t go far from washingon, d.c. or
wall street.

The thing that strikes me the most about Lieberman is how emblematic he is of many, if not most, of Congress today:

1) Selfish and utterly devoid of compassion for regular folk
2) Entrenched and ineffective
3) Uninspired and uninspiring
4) Privileged, white, wealthy and spoiled
5) Working well past his/her expiration date
6) Toxic
7) Condescending
8) Undeserving of respect

Yes, my dear friends, Joe Lieberman is the poster boy for everything that’s wrong with our elected officials today. It’s too bad we don’t have the political will to get rid of the whole lot of them.
