Occupy has opened up the conversation about economic inequality in the U.S.; UC Davis Chancellor Linda Katehi has had her hand in more than just the UC system; and a woman says she had an affair with Herman Cain for more than a decade. These discoveries and more below.

On a regular basis, Truthdig brings you the news items and odds and ends that have found their way to Larry Gross, director of the USC Annenberg School for Communication. A specialist in media and culture, art and communication, visual communication and media portrayals of minorities, Gross helped found the field of gay and lesbian studies.

Interesting article on animal rights.

I see nature as a charnel ground.

I would love to have the power to enlighten insects and such, but it seems the best approach at present, is to appeal to the finer sensibilities among humans.

That was kind of a joke.

We are all in big trouble.

It is food for thought.
