Elena “Shorty” Kagan will step onto the national stage when her confirmation process to become a Supreme Court justice begins Monday. Undoubtedly the confirmation hearings will bring words like stare decisis into the public vernacular again, along with a whole lot of hoopla about abortion. Let the democracy commence.

Most believe that Kagan, a former dean of Harvard Law School, will be confirmed with bipartisan support. —JCL

Reuters:

Elena Kagan, nicknamed “Shorty” by a liberal mentor before becoming a legal giant, will introduce herself to the nation next week as the widely anticipated next member of the U.S. Supreme Court.

Kagan is certain to face a Republican grilling when her Senate confirmation hearing begins on Monday, with critics questioning if she’s driven more by politics than law and backers calling her a perfect fit for the high court.

Barring any unforeseen bombshells, the former Harvard law school dean, who has served in the last two Democratic administrations, will likely win approval with bipartisan support.

Didn’t you suggest leaving us, ofersince72? How can you possibly think of doing so when you provide such a delightful chuckle? Chuckles are what make life worth living in this hellish world we humans have created.

I feel very comfortable knowing that

Goldman/Sachs is represented fairly on the Supreme Court.

“Shorty?” Shorty Kagan? So do we refer to Ms. Kagan as Justice Shorty? Wouldn’t it
be more important “IF” Ms. Kagan not tall enough to reach the ground?

High time for the make-up of the court to reflect the diversity of the country, and same goes for the Congress.

Of course because she’s a bi-partisan justice.

Great. As an architect of the law (recently validated by our
already right-wing Supreme Court) which criminalizes even
peaceful humanitarian or legal assistance to the victims of Israel’s
occupations, she will help to deepen the subordination of the
US government to the dictates of Israel.

She is a perfect warmongering Israel-centric faux-liberal in the
mold of Chuck Schumer, perfectly willing to brand anyone who doesn’t
love Israel as a “terrorist”.
