AP via Yahoo:

U.S. District Judge K. Michael Moore ruled Friday that Okeechobee High School must grant the same privileges to the Gay-Straight Alliance that it grants other clubs, as mandated by the federal Equal Access Act.

The American Civil Liberties Union sued the Okeechobee school board in November on behalf of the high school’s Gay-Straight Alliance after school officials said the group was a “sex-based” organization that would violate its abstinence-only education policy.

In his 12-page ruling, Moore wrote that the group and its founder, high school senior Yasmin Gonzalez, have “demonstrated a substantial likelihood of success” on their claim that the school violated federal law when it prohibited the club from meeting.

Several European countries already have mandated sex-education courses, beginning in their equivalent of what would be our grammar school here in the U.S., and continuing through High School. It doesn’t “make” the kids have sex, it educates them in how to be responsible, should they choose to engage in it. This comparison is not a new one, but some people here don’t ever seem to be in the mode of evolving.

And them I read something like: “...school officials said the group was a “sex-based” organization that would violate its abstinence-only education policy”, and I think that I’m truly in a country that can never give up on ignorance and backwardness.

Our kids are still getting pregnant, and adults are clueless as to how to stop unwanted pregnancies. And so all they can think of is to tell them “don’t do it”. WHY can’t we see, in this country, that such an approach doesn’t work, and look to countries whose approach, in fact, does, and try to emulate them?

We make the young people pay for the adult’s folly.

This is SO tiresome. The same STUPID arguments from the same STUPID people, year in, year out.

But perhaps the moniker of homoSEXual is the cause of some of the problems. It’s the word SEX that so many American’s just can’t tolerate. Both America and Americans are ADOLESCENTS… no where near maturity or adulthood. They all still “titter” like pubescent pimple-heads at the word!

Gays, try the label “homoEMOTIONAL” rather than homosexual. It will take at least a DECADE for the straights to figure out it means gays and lesbians! Give us all a decade of relief from the inane and immature nonsense demonstrated by the likes of the Okeechobee School Board.

I’ve been a gay man for 50 years. Never been a threat to any straight or their marriage. Never demanded more than I deserved as a citizen and taxpayer. Never been convicted of any crime.

But that doesn’t mean I never will. I won’t be responsible for my actions if any simple-minded, homophobic straight attempts to limit my right to full participation in my society’s institutions, politics, benefits and freedoms. Just because THEIR minds can’t deal with the reality of human diversity doesn’t give them the right to interfere with anyone else’s life. I, for one, won’t just lie down and take their BS.

Those people on the Okeechobee School Board should hang their heads in shame. They should also be required by the court to get an education on human sexuality and fairness and human rights before even being allowed to sit on the school board.

For starters, they could perhaps learn that gays have every bit as much right to discuss their sexuality as every member of the board has. These mental midgets on the school board don’t even know what the words FREEDOM and EDUCATION mean.
