 Deliberations to Begin in Edwards TrialPosted on May 17, 2012
Jurors in the corruption trial of former U.S. senator and presidential candidate John Edwards are expected to begin deliberations on Friday. Edwards is accused of using nearly $1 million in campaign donations to cover up an affair with ex-mistress Rielle Hunter. Attorneys on both sides presented their closing arguments on Thursday. Prosecutors claim Edwards “cooked up” the scheme to keep his presidential ambitions afloat. “Campaign finance laws are designed to bring the two Americas together at election time,” said prosecutor Bobby Higdon. “John Edwards forgot his own rhetoric. He had no problem dividing the two Americas when it served his own purpose.” The defense argued that while Edwards may have been a “bad husband,” he did not violate any federal campaign laws. Neither Edwards nor Hunter testified at the trial. —TEB

Well said prisnersdilema; Edwards highlighting the “Two Americas” must have made “the powers that be ” nervous. Also, why was Newt not held to the same standard when he left his dieing wife for Callista ?
Democrats seem to throw anyone under the bus who even smells like a liability.

John Edwards and Elliot Spitzer, made the wrong people nervous. And since those
people couldn’t arrange light plane crashes for everyone, they did the next best
thing.
They knew that the American public would be horrified, over Mr. Edwards, and Mr.
Spitzer’s behavior. So much so that they would end up, in a political dead end.
Forever, scorned and never listened to.
I wonder why, Ms. Hunter, and Mr. Edwards, didn’t seem to be able to understand
the necessity of birth control? But conceived a child under these circumstances? A
sure sign of poor judgement, on the one hand or political calculation on the other.
There’s something, about American mass consciousness that can never accept the
idea that men can be sexually exploited, or victimized. Mr. Edwards was doomed
right for the start, he was an easy target.
Some men cannot function without an available sex partner. And become

Here I disagree; Edwards should not go to prison for being a bad husband. “Kill them all, and let God sort them out” is not an adult way to deal with human beings; and like or not, Politicians are also people.

It’s just too bad that the PTB are going after him because he had the nerve to point out the Two Americas. Can’t have a richie doing that.

The only bright side to W.‘s win in 2004 is that Edwards would be the presumptive democrat with a foot in the door to the White house this year. It’s not much; but there ya’ go. Sort of a head I win, tails you lose situation. Bah!

Much as I believe that legislating folks’ sexuality is complete bullshit, it might be nice to see the book thrown at a politician for a change.
