Italian Strike Shakes Up CountryPosted on Jun 25, 2010
Italy’s largest union has launched a nationwide strike, upending public transport and government services in protest over the government’s recent austerity measures. The union, CGIL, is a 6-million-member-strong organization that is putting pressure on the government to revise the $30 billion list of cuts to the government budget for 2011 and 2012.

As someone who has a lot of family in Italy and spends time there, it’s amazing to watch those “socialists” (commies/fascists?) get off their asses and protest something they feel is unfair whilst we Americans pine away for a “revolution.” The fact is we are WAY TOO fat, lazy and complacent (aren’t we the greatest country in the world????) to stick our collective finger in the eye of our corporate masters.
Of course there are those of you who would complain that “organized labour” is evil because you’ve been brainwashed into believing that people should work for free (American Capitalism). Well too f***ing bad. It warms my heart to watch people in the streets protesting something worth fighting for.

If only those in the Land of the Free and Home of the Brave had the intelligence, political will and courage to do this, too.
