Vittorio Arrigoni was allegedly kidnapped by Salafists who wanted to barter him for the release of several prisoners, including Salafist leader Sheikh Abu Walid al-Maqdasi, from Palestinian jails.

The slaying of Italian pro-Palestinian activist Vittorio Arrigoni has led to international outrage, from solidarity groups as well as Hamas, whose spokesperson described the murder as being “against the humanity … of the Palestinian people.”

Arrigoni was killed allegedly by Salafist radicals, members of an Islamist movement that deems Hamas’ politics too moderate. —JCL

The BBC:

The Palestinian militant group that governs Gaza, Hamas, has condemned the murder of Italian pro-Palestinian activist Vittorio Arrigoni.

A Hamas spokesman described the killing as “against the humanity… of the Palestinian people”.

Mr Arrigoni was found dead hours after being seized on Thursday by a radical group in conflict with Hamas.

Police said he was found hanged in a Gaza City apartment and two people have been arrested.

VITTORIO ARRIGONI, THE MAN WHO SAW TOO MUCH …. KNEW TOO MUCH

April 17, 2011 at 20:33

So…. the Mossad had no other choice but to kill him.

From Mondoweiss……

Arrigoni documented Israeli attacks on Palestinian ambulance workers, ‘the most heroic people I ever met’

by Philip Weiss

An amazing video of the late Vik Vittorio Arrigoni from May 2009. At minute 6 he documents the attacks on Palestinian ambulance drivers during Cast Lead; you see two stretcher-bearers being shot at in Gaza City. Remember, this is an essential point of the now-disputed al-Samouni case, in which ambulances were prevented from approaching the bombed family, and at least one person died who surely might have survived their injuries. Doesn’t that constitute a deliberate attack on civilians?

What kool aid? You don’t need kool aid when you’re dealing with historical fact. A British peace activist was shot between the eyes by an Israeli sniper as he led Palestinian children away from where the IDF had run amok in the streets of Gaza just as children were getting out of school. Historical fact.  An Israeli bulldozer killed an American peace activist as she stood in front of the bulldozer trying to stop it demolishing a Palestinian house. It ran over her and crushed her to death. Historical fact. With this Italian activist it’s all too tragically obvious that he was killed as a warning to westerners not to side with the people of Gaza. The idea that anyone other than Israel was behind his death is ridiculous. They have form on killing peace activists, on land and sea, and they killed him too.

“Dont forget what Hamas says… the Jews are the obstacle to peace. Dont forget to feel sorry for Gaza, beset by evil Jews.”

Amen to all of that. This was done by Israel or those in the pay of Israel. The object is to turn the west against the long suffering people of Gaza. Won’t work. Israel is on the back foot after its disastrous invasion of Gaza in 2008 and the executions it carried out on the Turkish ship in international waters carrying food and medicine to the peope of Gaza; and when Israel’s on the back foot, the only thing you know for certain is that someone has to die. Every peace activist killed in Gaza was killed by Israel and this is no different. So far those I know of are one Briton, one American and now one Italian.

Money Hamas Quote:

A Hamas spokesman described the killing
as “against the humanity… of the Palestinian people”.

That’s rich. Apparently the firing of a state-of-the-art
Kornet anti-tank missile at a yellow Israeli
schoolbus by Hamas just last week is a worthy act of
‘resistance’. As were all the horrific bus-bombings
in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv over the years, all
perpetrated by Hamas. Not to mention the thousands of
artillery rockets lobbed at cities and towns.
Just once I’d like to see BBC and Reuters reporters actually do their jobs and ask why the Hamas obsession with targeting Israeli civilians is codified as part of their charter. This all begs the question: What, exactly, is “Palestinian humanity”, then?

It’s being reported that Libyan army forces have just
fired 100 Grad rockets at civilian areas of Misrata
in Libya. So here’s a perfect example of the
egregious double-standard applied to Arabs killing
jews: When Hamas does that (many times over), the
world essentially remains silent and then condemns
Israel for taking action to make Hamas stop. When
Libyan forces do that, NATO bombs Ghadafi’s army.
What we should also see is NATO bombing Hamas.

The Associated Press reports that a Hamas leader, Mahmoud Zahar, said Arrigoni and other foreign activists were “our friends” and promised that the perpetrators would be punished. He also indirectly accused Israel of engineering the killing to intimidate foreign activists seeking to sail to Gaza to protest a naval blockade imposed on the territory.

“Such an awful crime cannot take place without arrangements between all the parties concerned to keep the blockade imposed on Gaza,” Zahar said.

Ah. Its the evil Jews at work. Its always the evil Jews fault, isnt it? After all, people here blame them for 9/11, whats one more dead body to lay at their doorstep? A little more scapegoating, a little more blood guilt, a little more hate.

Just a little extra sadness for an already sad story.

Interestingly, Truthdig didnt think that detail was worth reporting.

Dont forget what Hamas says… the Jews are the obstacle to peace. Dont forget to feel sorry for Gaza, beset by evil Jews.

Now move along everyone.
