Israel’s Insatiable Zionism

Israel’s Zionism turned capitalism is getting out of hand; Postmodernism is dead, leaving many to question what it was in the first place; meanwhile, the Americas are projected to replace the Middle East as the energy capital of the world. These discoveries and more, below.

On a regular basis, Truthdig brings you the news items and odds and ends that have found their way to Larry Gross, director of the USC Annenberg School for Communication. A specialist in media and culture, art and communication, visual communication and media portrayals of minorities, Gross helped found the field of gay and lesbian studies.

The links below open in a new window. Newer ones are on top.

Israel’s swinish Zionism ought to be stopped
Israel tycoons have woken up to the new reality; they’re beginning to pay the price for their behavior—their capitalism has been defined as swinish.

Postmodernism is dead
A new exhibition signals the end of postmodernism. But what was it? And what comes next?

The Debt Crisis at American Colleges
Borrowing looms large in American life from homes to cars. But the explosion of student debt in the last decade is a pernicious trend that the colleges themselves are encouraging.

George W. Obama?
Those first acts of that first shining full day in the Oval Office are now so forgotten, but on January 21, 2009, among other things, Barack Obama promised to return America to “the high moral ground,” and then signed a straightforward executive order “requiring that the Guantanamo Bay detention facility be closed within a year.”

Is Netflix Hated Enough To Inspire A ‘Netflix Killer’?
Many have threatened to leave Netflix. But do they have anywhere to go? Supposed “Netflix killers” ... are going after its customers—even if they offer very different services, and in certain instances, more expensive prices.

Michele Bachmann’s Auschwitz Warning
In 2002, the tea party leader and GOP presidential candidate filmed a movie that warned Minnesota’s educational standards could lead to a second Holocaust.

The World Will Be More Crowded—With Old People
The U.N. now projects that over the next 40 years, more than half (58 percent) of the world’s population growth will come from increases in the number of people over 60, while only 6 percent will come from people under 30.

The Americas, Not the Middle East, Will Be the World Capital of Energy
For half a century, the global energy supply’s center of gravity has been the Middle East. This fact has had self-evidently enormous implications for the world we live in—and it’s about to change.

The Pentagon’s Spending Spree
Like so much else, when it comes to the American military, all comparisons are ludicrous.  In any normal sense, the United States stands alone in military terms.

But even long before the word ‘swinish’ was adopted to describe Israeli Zionism, Zionism, both in spirit and nature, was a parallel to ‘Hitlar-ism’ to coin my own new word.

Born in the womb of ‘Hitlar-ism’, Zionism was destined to carry on the genes of its mother and father and all the characteristic of evil and fascism that its parents embodied. So, in a sense, ‘Hitler-ism’ is well and alive in plain twenty-first century, in the person of Israeli Zionism. The only difference is the place of its residence and its victims. Hitler-ism was born and resided in Nazi Europe and its victims were mostly Semitic Jews, whereas Israeli Zionism was born in Europe, but changed its residence and theater of action to the heart of the Arab world, with its main victims are being the Semitic Arabs of Palestine.

What an irony!!!

Good article about Netflix.  It all depends on what you like to watch.  For those
who love new movies, especially inconsequential and celebrity junk, it may be
possible to find a cheaper alternative. But if you appreciate films with creative
value (including documentaries, international, and some good TV work,) I don’t think there’s any company that can match Netflix’s collection. The article didn’t mention this point but I’m not too surprised.

I don’t know if Zionism can be sustainable in the long run, but in its short lifetime it has sought the answer to a surprising question: whether abandonment of all knowledge of good and evil by a society can guarantee to its people perpetual life in a promised land.. By all accounts, Israel is by no means comparable to the Garden of Eden.  Israelis should find another way, but their way has been lost. Badly.

Just as a christian “holy land” in the midst of islam was unsustainable despite the horrors of the crusades, so too it seems that a zionist utopia at the same address will eventually collapse from its own presumptions.
