Palestinian protesters take cover after Israeli soldiers opened fire at them during a rally marking the day of nakba (catastrophe), the term used by Palestinians to describe the uprooting they suffered at the time of Israel’s founding on May 15, 1948.

As many as 13 are dead and scores more injured after Israeli forces shot at protesters Sunday. Crowds gathered near the borders of Gaza, Lebanon and Syria to condemn the founding of Israel. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said of the dead, “Their blood will not go to waste.”

Speaking on television, Abbas added, “Right is stronger than time, and the will of people is stronger than the power of the oppressive forces and the occupiers.”

In his own televised address, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he hoped for calm, but “Let nobody be mistaken, we are determined to defend our borders and sovereignty.”

An Israeli brigadier general, rather than apologize for killing civilians, blamed Iran, describing the protests as “an Iranian provocation, on both the Syrian and the Lebanese frontiers, to try to exploit the Nakba day commemorations.”

According to Ynetnews, about 100 Israelis gathered in Tel Aviv to express sympathy for the Palestinians, calling the Israel Defense Forces a “terror organization.” They were pelted with eggs.  —PZS

Patrick Henry you are correct.

I mentioned Ben-Guren stating that the Arabs would have to be moved out of the New Nation.  I failed to mention that he made that statement in 1937 in a speech concerning the Zionist campaign to run the Arabs out of Palestine.

That statement was made 10 years before the U N Mandate and before the Holocaust.

The Zionist Plan since before 1900 was to “cleanse” the idea of Biblical Israel of all but Jewish people.

Powerful PR has branded the Arabs as the aggressors instead of the victims.  Looks like “Spin” is not something new.

If one is looking for the Truth here, the tragedy of what is going on was created by the refusal of the Arab nations to recogize the right of Israel to exist

That should be, recognize the right of Israel to exist as a ‘Jewish nation’.

Kinda excludes everybody else, doesn’t it?

Nonsense; no aprtheid.  Baloney.  Arabs live in Israel, even are in the Knesset (congress);  there are Arab physicians, dentists, teachers, nurses, etc. in Israel.  Some apartheid. Indeed.
No Jews allowed in arab countries; At all. just like Christians in Egypt now being terrorized this very day.
  After Egypt tooke the Gaza srip in ‘48; and Jordan seized the West Bank, there was NOT a word from these countries to let the palastenian people (who they told to leave their homes in ‘47, because they were coming into to kill the Jews) have a country.  not a word.
  Israel then lived within mortar range of the Egyptians, the Jordanians and the Syrians, who had snatched heights overlooking Israel.; the mortars were fired.  For 20 years; yes 20 years, the territory that was to have been a Palestinian state under the U.N. plan was used by the P.L.O for attacks against Israel,with the approval and support of the Arab occupiers.

The Palestinians have had enough of Israel’s Apartheid & its brutal occupation.

How much more does the Palestinians have to lose of their land, homes, rights, freedom & dignity? Israeli settlements “For Jews Only” have flooded the West-Bank & East Jerusalem. The building, cranes, concrete & expansions are on-going non-stop.

What is going to remain of the “Occupied Territories” (post June 1967), which is 20% of the original land of Palestine…Israel is stealing land & resources with brutal force in broad daylight & right from under the Palestinian’s feet. Settlements & roads “for Jews only” in the Occupied Territories have taken up about 10% of the land.

So what is going to be left for the Palestinians…May be 10% of the original land of Palestine!!!

Where is the strong condemnation(s) from Obama, Hilary Clinton & the American members of the US Congress? They are all silent & it seems that NO one “Dares to speak out” against Israel’s brutal killing of unarmed Palestinian/Arab civilians who want to rid themselves from a brutal, racist & unjust Israeli occupation. They are asking for justice & dignity!!!

Our spineless US politicians are on their knees with their tails tucked between their legs & their heads are in the zionist lobbies troughs…groveling to AIPAC & other zionist organizations… What a sad state of affairs for the American taxpayers who are footing the bills & the $$$ 3-5 billion of dollars of aid & more to Apartheid Israel each year.

Israel’s killings & ethnic cleansing of the Palestinians is alive and well…American made weapons, aid $$$ & diplomatic cover/shield continues with no end in site.

howard - your history is incomplete. the israeli forces had already chosen to
expand well beyond the UN partition before any serious arab resistance was
formed (plan dalet). expansion was always the goal. King Abdullah headed the
largest of the armies of the arab resistance, yet the army was severely impeded
by secret agreements between Abdullah and the Israelis. it was a phony war,
the leadership of the arab armies was compromised. there were atrocities on
both sides, but nothing comparable to what the israeli forces did. rounding up
and executing all the men in a village and throwing them in mass graves,
expelling tens of thousands that weren’t even partof the partition.

this is all mainstream history, should be non-controversial at this point. ardent
zionists like benny morris admit and have recorded these mass murders. israel
was founded much like the US.
for those that support an israeli state, they should consider that expansion and
security are not the same thing, that we need to learn the TRUE history of what
happened and treat both sides like humans not like animals. we know from the
palestine papers that the palestinians have offered almost EVERYTHING and in
return, israel and the US continue to spit in their faces. we treat them worse
then animals. it is a shame, a shondah.

The assault against the Palestinian people by Zionists began back in the late 1800’s.  By 1907 when Ben-Guren lead the movement the die was cast.  Ben-Guren himself declared that when they got control of the new nation they wanted to establish, they would have to get rid of the Arabs.  If you want to you can go back in the records and find maps made in 1919 outlining the “Restored Israel”.

From 1907 until 1947 the Zionist ran a vicious terror campaign against the Palestinians.  The Second WW was a windfall for the plans of Ben-Guren and friends.

When the U N mandated a split the Arabs were not allowed to vote on whether they wanted partition or not and the new Nation Israel refused to accept any borders because the original 1947 borders didn’t match those drawn in 1919.

The Nabka began when the U N mandated the split.

It hasn’t stopped.

The Palestinians haven’t had any say in their future since the late 1880’s.

  In 1947, the United Nations, with the support of every major power, voted to partition the British mandate of palestine into Israeli and Palestinins sttes.  If the arabs had accepted that, there would today be a separate palastinian state over 60 years old.
  But the Arab states fell upon Israel with full energies and tried to kill the Jewish staet. They seized and divided what was to have been the palestinins state.
  Egypt took the Gaza strip.  Joran, now admired in the West, seized the West bank.  It also captured most of Jerusalem, defiled Jewish holy places, banned Jews, and destroyed hopes of internationalization of the Holy City.
  this is all history.  But vry important to know how we got here. Palestinians must recgnize that their attempts to kill the Israeli state in 1948, and almost ever since, led to what is happening today.  To pretend Israel brought this on herelf is a hypocrisy and falsehood that blocks the future

Driving Bear

A most interesting subject.  By the way I also have Cherokee ancestry.  My Grandmother was on the Roll. I visited the Museum at Anadarko and found one of my family ancestry there ( In the Garden of Statues out side).

But I often say that my extended family is mongrel.  I think I have every race of Mankind in my family except Jewish (Race by Ultra-Orthodox Judaism).  And I am not sure of that.

I suppose I could call myself a Catholic.  But just because I said I was doesn’t mean that I am.
I like to consider myself as a child of the Human Race.

And seems to me that just because someone claims that they are a Christian Jew or Vice-Versa doesn’t mean they are, even if they desperately want to believe it to be so.

I ask all who claim to be Christians to read The First Epistle of John Chapter 22 Verse 22&23;:

“Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is Anti-Christ, that denieth the Father and the Son.”

“Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father”

Then turn to The Second Epistle of John Verse 7,10&11;
“For many deceivers are entered into the World, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh.  This is a deceiver and an Anti-Christ.”

“If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:”

“For he that biddeth him God speed is a partaker of his evil deeds.” 

It is possible for an Ultra Orthodox Jew to be a Christian and still be a Jew because of the Ultra Orthodox Matriarchal Law ( One is a Jew who is born of a Jewish Mother).  But this would be a Jew by race and not necessarily Religion.

The US only has absolute veto power in the UNSC, not
in the UNGA.  This will be the first time that the
PA has petitioned the GA to vote on their demand for
a state.  In the past the PA has never made such a
demand because the conditions were not right.  Now,
while conditions are a bit better, they are now in a
position as Israel was in 1948 to declare and ask
for a state.  This is all a phenomenon known as
ahead to the past because the original partition of
Palestine in 1947 called for the establishment of
Jewish and Arab states.  The Jews jumped the gun in
1948 and because of the number of WW II Jewish DPs
the UNGA was persuaded to vote for the Jewish state. 
While on the other hand the Palestinians were just
too poorly organized to follow suit.

Martha - are you really not aware that the UN holds a vote every year concerning
the israel/palestine conflict? the resolution is quite clear and supported by the
world community. a 2 state settlement based on the june 1967 border, just
resolution of the refugee question based on right of return and compensation.
Every year the whole world favors this proposal and every year the US, Israel and a
handful of tiny countries such as Palau and Micronesia dissent. The bottom line is
the US is not allowing a peaceful resolution. the UN has no power to do anything
as long as the US is in the way.
and whatever land the UN partitioned for israel in 1947 has nothing to do with its
borders today. what tiny slivers of land the palestinians have left is under
draconian control and blockade. there is nothing to defend here. israel is defying
international law and the US is allowing them to get away with it.

You do realize people lived there - that were violently forced from their homes
to make room for a state based on ethnic purity. 

 

As I have said before on this thread, the conflict needs to be
brought
before the United Nations Council and if the UN won’t hear it, the UN
needs to be picketed until the UN does hear the evidence of the
situation, because the conflict is definitely something the United
Nation is in charge of settling.

So what else is new?!  On Nakba Day, in the past, Syria
has always kept protesters away from the border. 
However, with their internal problems, they needed a
diversion and a good one at that.  It’s obvious that
with Hezbollah also staging more active demonstration
than in the past, Iran has involved itself in this
controversy.  But the best is yet to come when, in
September, the UNGA will vote on the resolution to
authorize a Palestinian state and then the fun begins—
-let us count the ways!

Send NATO, bomb Netanyahu’s compound, target his family and grandchildren, impose a no-fly zone over Israel, send the SAS and the Special Forces to train and arm the Palestinians, allow la Clinton to sermonize ad nauseaumn about human rights, something she has never respected. Or is this policy limited to the enemies of the empire and not to it’s thugs and henchmen? Selective enforcement is it, this humanitarian intervention? During the Crusades it was Christianity now the new Crusade uses humanitarian intervention. We need humanitarian intervention in our ghettoes, our barrios our reservations. Oh, let’s not forget to have the world court go after Netanyahu for it is after all an impartial court.

Whether Israel should have been created in 1948 is no longer the point ( though I don’t think Britain had any right giving land they colonized illegally to anyone). It’s over and done. However what’s totally relevant is the completely lopsided support we give to a belligerent, landstealing nuclear power ( namely Israel). Our onesided support of Israel at the expense of even ever considering a Palestinian position is one of the major reasons we are so hated in that part of the world. This policy is completely contrary to real American interests, which after all should be our main concern.

That’s what happens when you refuse to return land that is not rightfully yours —
For the fanatics out there, “rightful” here does not mean by some holy decree —
and when you refuse to negotiate in good-faith with those whose land you took.

Israel has itself and only itself to blame for this. And when Israel collapses and this
oppressive regime ceases to exist, then perhaps Israelis will finally wake up and
realize that they have been arrogant and stubborn all along.

Palestinians in Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and Egypt — along with the native
inhabitants of those states — should march again tomorrow and the day after and
the following day on Israel and cross the border into Israel until Israel ends its
occupation and abides by UN resolutions.

I wonder what the US response will be to these actions? Then again, I already know what the response will be. It will be one of two, either that the protesters should respect Israel’s borders, or that Israel has the right to defend and protect their land and citizens. lol. The just and right thing to do of course would be for both Hillary Clinton and Obama to publicly condemn these killings and then immediately call for aid to Israel to be cut off. That would be the right thing to do- but when was the last time that happened here?

So Driving Bear, what if America and a few other countries decided it would be a good idea to give a part of Canada to the Native Americans, to make up for their losses. We go in and make all the people in that area give up their homes, business’s, their farms and lands (even though they may have lived there for hundreds of years) and let as many Native American move in as want to. Do you think the Canadians might be a little pissed?!

@Martha, well, after getting the gist of all the smoke you just blew (every white American I bump into always claims some sort of Cherokee heritage), there’s one crucial flaw in your analysis. You claim Israel has been given territory to be a sovereign nation. Ok, fair enough. BUT the recent clashes are over the WEST BANK and EAST JERUSALEM which Israel ILLEGALLY occupies and GAZA which Israel continues to blockade.

extermination program cost too much, so many nationalities of
Native Americans exist and many in the nationalities have mixed
with the European nationalities in the United States.  Some Native
American nationalities did get totally exterminated though.  I am a
mixed European citizen of the Cherokee Nation.

The sovereignty isn’t the same with Native Americans, whose land
continues to be occupied, as it is with the Jews in Israel.  The Jews
were given Israel as their own sovereign country and they have to
protect their land from being taken by other nationalities.

Different nationalities of Native Americans were designated to
reservations within the United States for their various nationalities
over which they have a quasi sovereignty subject to the laws of
the United States. 

Unlike African Americans, Mexican Americans, and Latino
Americans, Native Americans are separated citizens of the United
States, every Native American is a citizen of the United States as
well as a citizen of their native nationalities and are hardly, if ever,
mentioned as being significant to the United States, even though
there are many Native Americans within the United States.

Native Americans would never march to remove citizens of the
United States, as there is no way to return to what was anymore
than Israel and the Palestinians can return to what was, they will
have to arrive at an agreement of what is.

I do not condemn Israel for guarding their borders.  My prayer is
that peacemakers will be more diligent so that border deaths like
happened in the above film will cease to exist.

The fact that Palestinians are alive today as you stated in your second post proves that you lied in your first when you called the leaders of Israel “maniacs”.

Second Israel has never colonized one inch of Arab land. It was a colonial army in 70 AD that force the jews off their land the land that they were able to reclaim 1900 years later

Third you claimed that both palestinian faction agree that for the 67 borders they will make peace with Israel. That too is false.

Hamas’ policy is that for the 67 borders Israel will receive not peace but a 15-20 year truce. After that time they will resume their fight to destroy the Jewish state.

Also in 2000 7 years after signing the Oslo agreement at the white house Arafat stated in public
quote ” our struggle with the Zionist enemy (Israel ) is not about Israel borders but about Israel existence , peace for us means the the destruction of Israel”  The current leader of fatah is Abbas who was hand picked by Arafat to be his successor

So Israel has two choices live or Die and unlike the arabs jews and Israel choose to live; And if you and Norman Finkelstein don’t like that tought s**T

average people do not want violence - recommendation to native Palestinians:

No, a Christian will not be a Christian if they
deny that Jesus is the Son of God.

If the answers above are no and no, then there is no such
thing as a Jewish/Christian or a Christian/Jew.
  Yes, there are
Jewish Christians and Christian Jews.  Jesus is a Jew.  There is
more to it than yes and no.  Jesus is not just a religion but a
relationship with God via Jesus.  Jesus said you must be born
again for salvation through the blood of the Son of God, Jesus.

If the answers are yes and yes then neither is an adherent to
their stated Religion.
  This is incorrect as both are adherent to
their stated religion if they love God and follow the
commandments, the Christian loves God through the blood of
Jesus and the new commandments given by Jesus and the Jew
loves God directly by the Old Testament commandments and is still
looking for Messiah to come.  The Christian Jew has found Jesus,
the Messiah.

The Christian Religion is an all inclusive religion - meaning
anyone may join by accepting Jesus Christ as their savior.

Is the Jewish Religion an all inclusive Religion?  They do not
accept Christians.

These two religions are as different as night and day.
You cannot be an honest adherent to both.
  Yes you can.
These religions are actually the same religion, only fulfilled in
Christianity. Jews that do not accept Jesus are not dishonest. 
They don’t know they need to accept Jesus.  When a Jewish
person realizes their need to accept Jesus as their Savior and
Messiah and accepts Jesus as their Savior and Messiah, they
become a Christian.

@Driving Bear, there’s a major difference, most of the Native population of the Americas was exterminated, the Palestinians however, have been able to survive the last 60 years and remain a present, organized, whole and vibrant community.

But thanks for showing how Judeo-Christian values apparently harmonize with brutal colonial attitudes.

Post on facebook and the Internet and all other forms of the press that you and your friends intend to march on Mexico or Canada take your pick to reclaim the land for the Native Americans and drive the Mexicans or Canadians out on a specific date.

When that day comes and you start marching and break down a border fence and throw rocks and the   border guards and the army.

I will await word from your next of kin to your fate

Let’s brush aside religious fanatics like Driving Bear and get to the heart of the matter: BOTH Palestinian factions have agreed to a two-state settlement based on Israel’s pre-1967 borders, Israel meanwhile wishes to continue colonizing and annexing the West Bank and East Jerusalem and is behaving more and more like a what Norman Finkelstein describes as a “lunatic state.”

Today’s killings only show how Israel is truly run by maniacs, Netanyahu and Lieberman are the El Duces of the the Middle East.

In fact there are thousands of us and we call ourselves messianic Jews

Jews are waiting for Jesus and refuse to accept that he has come
already.

Christians that are real Christians pray for the peace of Jerusalem, do
not encourage war and look forward to the day when peace will be in
Jerusalem.

Second the people shot at the border has stated that
their aim was to retake the land of Israel. When you
cross an internationally recognized border with the
intent to take land you are no longer a civilian but
part of an invading army; therefore Israel was  
justified in killing them.

Just some Israelis participating in the national pastime, killing and degrading Palestinians at the point of a gun.

This situation also occured in Libya, where the government, sans Gadaffi killed protesters and the U.N. and NATO went batshit, lets see how that benchmark stands in the court of blind justice, with Israel.

Though coming almost 60 years later, I am pleased that those 100 conscientious Jews finally learned that the so-called Israeli Defense Forces is a terror organization. That’s what they always been and that’s what they will always be.

As the American military is increasing becoming as an evil tool in the hands of evil fascist political types, and the latest is Obama, I dare to say that American military can also be labeled as a “terrorist organization” responsible for “state-sponsored terrorism” around the Arab-Muslim world.

Mack, you might take a look at English AlJazeera, 5/16/11, article entitled “The Predicament of the Islamic Republic” by Prof. Hamid Dabachi, Iranian Studies Dept., Columbia University. Here’s an excerpt which may be one accurate viewpoint we don’t get in our U.S. media:

”  ...The Iranian civil rights movement, code-named the Green Movement, is and will remain non-violent. It has neither a military wing, nor a militant ideology. Its radicalisation is not tantamount to its turning violent the way similar uprisings have in Libya, Syria, Bahrain - or even Yemen. The Green Movement has now reached deeply into its forceful constituent components: the labour, women’s rights, and student movement. The ruling elite of the Islamic Republic does not have the moral or the imaginative wherewithal of withstanding the democratic challenges coming from the Arab world to face up to these far more deeply rooted discontents at one and the same time.”
  It is instructive how the role of non-violence (such as it is) in the Arab Spring is virtually unreported here. Opinions are very mixed on this subject—but at least there’s some discussion of it worldwide.
