Posted on Nov 6, 2011

Israel’s attempts to threaten Iran are insane; the Sky Watch tower in Zuccotti Park causes more than a little unease; and a new app hints at a future in which phones will replace cash and credit cards. These discoveries and more below.

On a regular basis, Truthdig brings you the news items and odds and ends that have found their way to Larry Gross, director of the USC Annenberg School for Communication. A specialist in media and culture, art and communication, visual communication and media portrayals of minorities, Gross helped found the field of gay and lesbian studies.

The links below open in a new window. Newer ones are on top.

Insanity, not logic, guides Israel’s leadership
The men’s men who are threatening Iran now are the real cowards’ cowards. The brave ones are in fact those who are trying to thwart the insanity, from former Mossad chief Meir Dagan to Interior Minister Eli Yishai.

Creepy NYPD Watchtower Monitoring OWS
Sky Watch is like one of those mechanical forest walkers from the Star Wars movies without the lasers or the walking.

Washington vs the Rest of America
The biggest question in America these days is how to revive the economy.

MTV blows its street cred—Wall St. vs the Jersey Shore
There is no golden age of MTV, although a new oral history called “I Want My MTV” at least argues that there were better times to watch—namely, during its first 10 years.

Sympathy grows for alleged forgers
The four protagonists in Germany’s biggest art forgery scandal were sentenced to a total 15 years in prison on Oct. 27 following charges of forgery and corruption in a Cologne court.

Anger over Louvre’s plan to clean a Leonardo
Conservators approach works by Leonardo da Vinci at their peril for fear of creating a storm—especially in France.

Eva & Adele: A living artwork
They are a living artwork who claim to have come from the future in a time machine. Is Britain ready for Eva and Adele? Helen Pidd spends a day with Berlin’s oddest couple.

A new app called Card Case foretells a world without cash and plastic
Paying for stuff with your phone sounds awesome until you stop to think about it.

Street Art Finds a Home in Tel Aviv
What happens when the grimy surfaces of the street meet the sterile white walls of the museum?

The Generation Gap and the 2012 Election
Not since 1972 has generation played such a significant role in voter preferences as it has in recent elections.

Israel clearly isn’t going to intimidate iran’s regime with words and israel hasn’t
the ability to stop iran’s nuclear weapons program.

The key words in this article are ‘Irrational Israel’ and I doubt Israel intimidates Iran with its weekly threats and idle banter.

What saddens me is how it is framed in the U.S. media.  We have no dog in this fight and the American population is war weary.  I vote that the US sit out this Israeli paranoia fantasy.

Israel tour guide hacks like Howard would have anyone believe that it is Iran who is the bully here when it is precisely the Israels who are talking the most shit and have been at it for years.

Israel is not a signatory of the NPT like Iran and indiscriminately attacks its neighbors civilians with little or no provication which Iran does not.

to be quite short i aver or say with absolute certainty: the insanely-
sanest among us will wage a new war next yr or new wars in decades,
centuries, maybe millennia even.
the insanely sanest people just need a war too much at this time to let
go of such a tool to preserve or improve their ‘sad’ lot [laughing all the
way to the bank]
and a war at home and not just abroad!! tnx bozhidar balkas vancouver

Its either a ploy for more $$$$$ from Uncle Sam or the Israelis are
attempting to sucker themselves or some else is suckering Israel into a
box.

The future will tell.

u.s supremacists [asocialists, sybarites, addicts to power] or world
supremacists need badly a war now.
i’d say much more badly than the wars the supremacists waged against
korea, vietnam, palestina ‘22-to today, iraq, cuba, pashtunstan,
lebanon.
and those wars worked butifly for them supremacist.
and the proof is in the pudding: in ‘08, 98% of americans approved each
u.s war ever waged and all other u.s’ doings thus far.

so, one, two, three, .. more wars and other [mis]doings might work
butifly for them once again.
in any case, they cannot lose—they actually wld become even richer
because of the next one or more wars and each misdoing.

i, ergo, conclude a war is coming. probably a soft one—like the ones
against pashtuns and pal’ns. who’s next then? syria, lebanon, yemen,
iran [not if it has wmd, of course—world supremacists are not that
stupid].
i thank my goddevil for telling me this. IT says war is on! tnx

Here we go again:  unable to persuade Pres. Obama to keep ten thousand troops in Iraq, the neocons are now beating the drums of war with Iran.  The question is whether Pres. Obama will allow this nation to be dragged into another war after our “ally” Israel attacks Iran.

Yada, yada, yada
Iran has been threatening and swearing for a very long time to eliminate and ‘desroy’ Israel.
  Israel takes it Very seriously.
Don’t bleme ‘em.

Is it that time of the week again were Israel threatens Iran.  These threats are a joke given Israel is guilty of everything they accuse Iran of.

If a country ever needed atomic weapons to deter an outside threat it would be Iran.

I hope they prevail over the zionist pricks who now threaten the world.
