The Union Jack burned outside the British Embassy in Tehran on Tuesday as angry Iranian protesters charged the compound, smashed windows and demonstrated their displeasure with the British government’s newly imposed sanctions in reaction to Iran’s purported plans to develop nuclear weapons.  —KA

BBC:

The UK’s Foreign Office said it was “outraged” by the actions.

Uncle Sam’s done worse. Did the Brits didn’t squawk about that?

On May 29, 2003, U.S. soldiers raided the Palestinian diplomatic mission in Baghdad, Iraq.  During the raid, they arrested eleven people, including charge d’affaires Najah Abdel Rahman and two other diplomats.  Nine of the eleven individuals arrested were released in July 2003.  Najah Abdel Rahman and cultural attache Monir Subhi were released in 2004 after nearly a year of detention.
