Iran Now Has a President Who Believes in the Holocaust
Posted on Sep 25, 2013
Unlike Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who as Iran’s president convened a conference to investigate the Holocaust as hoax, Hasan Rowhani has another take.
Iran’s new president, speaking to Christiane Amanpour (who herself grew up in Tehran, incidentally), said the crimes of the Nazis are “reprehensible and condemnable.”
However, as we have come to expect from Rowhani, he left himself some wiggle room with Iranian hard-liners, prefacing his reply with this caveat: “I’ve said before that I am not a historian, and when it comes to speaking of the dimensions of the Holocaust, it is the historians that should reflect.”
Nonetheless, Iran’s new president continues to distinguish himself from Iran’s last president, and, where anti-Semitism is concerned, that is obviously a good thing.
