Indiana Lawmaker: Girl Scouts Promote Homosexuality, CommunismPosted on Feb 22, 2012
Oh, what “a small amount of Web-based research” can do. Indiana state Rep. Bob Morris hopped online recently to read up on an organization he was concerned about, one that imperiled his conservative family and threatened to turn his daughters into pro-abortion communist homosexuals. Yes, we’re talking about the Girl Scouts. Peddling those Thin Mints is just a sinister cover. —KA

Blueokie - “American Heritage Girls does sound like a fun organization, they probably have all the good merit badges: homemaking, fertility chants, snake-handler burqas, and advanced subservience. You have to admit, its a lot easier to rule the world (or think you do) when you can be dismissive of half of humanity.”
HA! Your description applies to a huge number of religious organizations. They don’t even need to build an “organization for girls.” They fundamentally treat females like this out-of-habit.

As someone who lives in the “heartland” this sounds all too familiar. I think the motto for a large swath of “flyover country” should be; “The more I beleives, the less I have to worry ‘bout knowin’”. Remember the number one hobby in these parts is unsubstantiated fear. Ignorance is so easy and comfortably blissful.

sand 11: I realize my remarks on Indiana are offensive generalities—like most generalities—and not amusing to someone whose feelings are offended. (I have a lot to learn about how to use humor without offending.) I am by nature sarcastic with a cartoonist’s attitude most of the time. I got it from my Dad who taught evolution in a big city high school at a time when ignorant, intolerant people who never read books were trying to dictate what should and should not be taught to young people. Sound familiar? I’m now 98 years old, which means that for at least 150 years we have been trying to convince a majority of Americans that ignorance is more dangerous than science. Time for a little relatively harmless sarcasm, don’t you think?

People like this self-righteous man explain how a climate of hatred against anyone who is not exactly like him can permeate what was once a free, democratic country. I’m embarrassed for America.

Note to self: buy more cookies this year!
While the american south is considered the land that time forgot, I need to clue americans in on a little known fact, in all my travels over the years, many of the states of the mid-west are filled with some of the most ignorant fundamentalist pin-heads you will ever come across. Indiana in particular seems to be stuck in 1949 (hell, maybe 1849). Some of americas worst slums can be found in and around Indianapolis.
Hoosiers need to stop humping their bibles and sucking on their flags, and enjoy some delicious girl scout cookies.

If yer gonna git rid of pig-headed Hoosier bias, yer gonna haf t’do more than hand out Thin Mints.
Report thisHaving spent my teen years in Indiana, I speak from experience, and only want to add that it was a shear stroke of good luck that Frank Baum and Kurt Vonnegut were both Indiana natives. Saved the state from utter ignominy—that and high school basketball.

When Boy Scouts of America won their battle against “gay leaders” back in the 1990’s I sent back my Eagle Scout regalia, my Order of the Arrow Sash and included a letter to the Board of the BSA telling them how ridiculous the policy was. I received a response wrapped in a metaphorical bouquet reeking of condescension that, to this day, leaves me cold.
The GSA have had the good sense to stand their ground on homosexuality. They certainly have more cajones than the jerks at the BSA.

“He said the discussion and research led to his conclusions that the Girl Scouts encourage sexual activity, are a front for Planned Parenthood, and that scouts are encouraged to look up to role models who endorse feminist, lesbian and Communist agendas.”
Representative Morris should make his findings public immediately—-ideally with citations from literature and an identification of the people with whom he spoke—so that other American mothers and fathers can decide whether they wish to withdraw their daughters from the organization or else to prohibit them from ever joining.
After all, Mr. Morris has the best interests of his fellow Hoosiers and of other American citizens in mind, right?

Report thisSeriously I remember the time that troop of Brownies strong-armed me into buying one of their high-calorie chocolate bars, and when I asked them what they were going to do with the money, I can still recall with a shiver those little girl voices laughing and saying, “We’re gonna abort some babies!” Some nights I still wake up in cold sweats…

It’s a big bad world out there.
Had I a daughter or two, I would probably be mortified if they expressed the desire to become Girl Scouts. The same of course would apply to any masculine child I might father with regards to the Boy Scouts of America.
